Low signal reading from shure sm58

Hi, i would like to get some advise on why my old shure sm58 are having a lower signal read off at the mixer as compared to a new shure sm58beta.

The mic grill on the old mic is dented and would that be a factor affecting the signal strength received?

Thank you :D

Hi soju,

i believe not lei. Because im comparing the signal level between the new sm58beta and the old sm58 using the same xlr cable plugged into the same channel of the mixer with same settings.

With the preamp gain pumped for the old sm58 there isnt much increase in the received signal, but there is severe feedback

its the shure sm58a beta which is newly acquired. and shure sm58, which has been around for many years

From what I've researched, Sm58a beta has a higher output I believe. Dented Grill doesn't affect much of the mics signal strength. Maybe its the pickup of the mic that's the factor. IMHO. :D

I won't wanna say damaged. But worn out maybe? Not too sure..but I think by nature..electronics stuff do tend to wear off after a certain period of time..the Diaphragm might be the factor... :)
