Hi everyone,

Do Dizis come in low keys and high keys? (e.g. low 'G' and high 'G', sorry, I'm abit of a music idiot )
I'm basically looking around for dizis which is similar in pitch/sound to the one played in the opening of this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Z2JMw6gKQ0 (A Chinese Oddysey )

Also, is there really a big difference between a Professional Grade and a Concert Grade Dizi in terms of sound?

Thank you! :D

Yes. There are treble, tenor and bass dizis.

I'm not sure the difference between pro and concert - I'm not sure if they are actually different.

So for each of them (treble, tenor and bass), it consist of all the keys from A-G?

I believe they come in different keys (D, F, G etc) and each has a range of about 2.5 ocataves. When you say A-G, it depends on which octave.

Ok I'm getting a little blur..

So basically, there are only keys A-G, and each dizi in a specific key, when played, overlaps to another key right?

Anyway, I still don't know the key of the flute being played in the video..

I don't think they come in all the keys, but I believe there are at least 3 keys (D, F, and G). Yes, a particular key dizi can also play in another key. There are also different types of Dizi, like the Bangdi etc.

Chinese orchestra players will have to chip in here.

Ok, I think I've kind of found my answer in another forum =)

The one in the video is a Qudi, but I still don't know the exact key though.

Cheez, thanks for your help :)

The key is in E minor. So the Dizi must be in G. It certainly sounds very low. Almost like a flute in the lower register. I need to listen again from a pair of earphones instead of my notebook speakers, which isn't very clear.

lypk, just curious. Which forum did you go to for the answer? Want to know SOFT's competitors....;)

wahhhh....coool Cheez....how to listen to a tune and know the key huh?
