Looking for a tube amp...

Hey again, if this helps. The reason why I'm changing my Marshall MG30DFX is because it doesn't go well with my Tubescreamer. And my main guitar is a strat, sometimes I use a Les Paul. I may need amp drive. Thanks!

Cheers,

Ever tried a Laney VC15-110?:twisted::twisted::twisted:

Or, if that's too groovy for you, then maybe a Laney LC15R for higher gain?

Both are full tube with accutronics reverb.

P.S. I nailed Mayer's "Try!" tone with the VC15 and a strat... great amp man...

Thanks whitestrat! I have visited their website. Both seem like a nice amp, I like the LC15 as it has a warmer tone hehehe. Any idea on how much the both amps cost? Thanks!

H & K 20 anniversary tube 20 is a great amp and its in your budget range. Peavey Classic 30, Laney VC15 or 30 are nice too. But H & K has more gains on dirty channel.

I can't remember, but I know the LC is below 1k, and the VC is a bit more than 1k... I'm using the VC now, and I like it VERY MUCH. Might want to get another amp sometime later for higher gain tones. The LC is nice too, but for some reason, darker than the VC, thought both are supposed to have the same tubes and circuitry, though both give very different tones. Try both at Swee Lee first.

You'll find the LC isn't as vintage sounding as you'd like... Though it's a good "one amp for all tones" option. The VC isn't as versatile, but has a much nicer tone character, and can do nice high gains with a crunchbox... Heh...

Too bad Swee Lee doesn't bring in Laney footswitches... Otherwise you'd get both a channel switch and a reverb switch... cool sia...

Just make sure the speaker is at least 12'.

That's what I used to believe. Until I worked in car audio for a couple of years and learnt that the best size for a subwoofer is not 12", but 10". Main reason: "Speaker Deflection Rate". I'm not even talking about tone, because tone is subjective.

...and to this day, I've heard quite a few 10" speakers that out performs any 12". What matters isn't the speaker size. What matters is more the cab size. How much air you have in the box as opposed to the speaker size.

But you really should go try the VC15. It's a 10" Jensen speaker. It sounds big. Bigger than the LC15R. Simple reason: Bigger box.

Haha thanks! I will go try as many of these recommended amps when I have the time. How much and where do they carry Hughes & Kettner? Thanks!

Okay, I striked off everything on the list except: Orange Tiny Terror, THD Univalve, AC30/15CC1 (But I don't know how to get drive on this amp sadly...) and maybe a Fender Champ 600. I need something that can control gain level, and have some good cleans.

Orange Tiny Terror
Pros: good distortion, can control gain level, portable
Cons: cleans are not to my liking

THD Univalve
Pros: good distortion, can control gain level, cleans not bad
Cons: not very portable

Vox AC30/15CC1
Pros: great cleans, many sound variations, can go well with different guitars
Cons: cannot control gain level (to get dirt must blast)

Fender Champ 600
Pros: extremely portable, great cleans, simple and nice
Cons: may not be able to blend well with my pedals

any consideration for this one:

it's slightly more than $1K & that's list... it's 50W but switchable to 25W...

also, no love for the Valve Jr (since you considered Fender's Champ 600)?

If you do decide on the Univalve, PM me as i still have the head for sale

How about the Line6 Spidervalves ? Heard they had a collaboration with Bogner himself.... any good? Anyone tried them? Anyone has them? Anyone selling?
