Looking for a mid-cheap range synth..i finding a mid range synth of abt 300-400, i dont want 2nd hand stuff as i don trust them :p.. can anyone intro to me any shops i can go take a walk and look around in sg?.. & can anyone reccomend any synth to me, for around 300-400 SGD.. im looking for one that can be playable in concerts and i would need an amp also, can anyone reccomend one for a synth?.. The synthesizer is for my own music creation, for concerts and for self-play. I dont really need a very proffesional one as im still noob in synthesizers.. i just wana try out a mid range synthesizer and know how it works etc as im planning to to take up sound engineering at la-selle( must be prepared in music technology :p ) ..

btw, i am finding a teacher can teaches digital stuff, like how to use a mixer, IT in music, recording etc, i wonder if there are such private teachers around, or anyone of you here are willing to teach for a fee :)..

thx !

teraslasch, first of all, i suggest you take a walk to shops like City Music, Swee Lee, Music Plaza(Yamaha) to see what is a synthesizer. 8O

i know wads a synthesizer, i have checked out yamah's motif.. a synthesizer is like a keyboard, just that it has a sound module that can be used to make and edit sounds ( thats what im looking for ) .. yamah synths are generally expensive and not in my budget =/.. may i know whers swee lee?

sorry doode, i tink that there is no new branded synth at 300-400sgd. Even unbranded one, i tink not either. With that budget, you can only get a starter or entry level general keyboard. Your 1cent is not as big as a bullocks cart wheel, that's the fact.

You might be able to get one part or the other only. A midi controller, or a synth module (I tink also outta budget brand new).

If you dont have the budget, then your only choice is to get 2nd hand stuffs. But also not easy to get. People these days smart one, do their own valuation and over value their used stuffs most of time.

Just an advise, cause I doing trading for quite a while already. Better save up to get a new one (entry level synth is about S$1k). Or I could have dinosoar DX7 up for grabs too.......haha... within your budget. 8)

i already got a midi controller.. infact i got 2 liao .. wad i need now is a synth as i really want to learn how to use it and master it :)..i may have to buy 2nd hand but i scared i'll get rippped becoz im a noob and i wont even know if any functions are not working .. so maybe if i buy 2nd hand synth i get a pro to help me check lol..

oh..? then there is really no advantage to get a synth if you already have controller. it is like getting a typewritter when you have a computer with DTP capability.

what software are you using now for sound/sequencing?

btw, how many years before la-salle?

2 years b4 la-selle.. lol.. duno whether can go in ... im using cakewalk sonar ( downloaded ) shh.. lol.. and GPO(Garritan's Personal Orchestra).. i wana get a synth so that i will know how to use it , i also want more synthy samples ..haha.. i might get MOTIF rack if i do well for my mid yr exams lol.. but its impossible..:p..no mood to study now lol..

you could contact the guy whose selling his S-03 and place a deposit first before paying him the remaining amount

pay deposit? thereby allowing a seller to run away with your money and never pick up your phone call again. pls think properly first man. the world is not so kind.

anyway, teraslasch, being a keyboardist is quite an expensive hobby. even at entry level. firstly, gear isn't cheap. secondly, if u don't own a vehicle u might end up taking cab more often than u wish to, just to transport your keyboard around.

anyway, with your budget, and since u have 2 controllers already, u might want to consider getting a module instead. if u're lucky, u might be able to land an old korg module. maybe an O3/R or X5DR or the small little roland JV1010.

Yes, it's true for the above facts. I remember during school days carrying my first synth workstn which weighs 9.2Kg to Boon jam studio (S'goon), Macpherson friend hse and (Jurong East) Seng Chai in bus and MRTs

By the time you reach your venue, you're juz a guy finished 2.4km;
no energy for music. Mu suggestion is invest in a module and use the
controllers in the jam studio. Nowadays jam studios are better equipped
with MIDI controllers and most studios have 2.

My time in the late80s and early90s were bad for keyboardists. Most jam studios normally have Roland Juno106s, 60s or Jupiters (strange now these synths are sought after items ?!). To get good sounds, you gotta bring your own.

Early synths in the 90s are pretty heavy, like Korg M1, Roland D50, Yamaha V50.

In the mid-90s, synths such as Korg X5, Yamaha Cs1x, Roland XP10 are light and very portable.

I think the Yamaha S03 is light and portable as well, it's built for gigging purpose. Another is the
Roland Juno-D, next is Korg Triton Le !!!
CHECK THEM OUT at your nearest music retail store !!!

hmm.. my 2 controllers are actually O2 and a yamaha disklavier and none of them are suitable for gigging.. so im looking at a synth now.. a sound module would also be good for me but i would need to get a much bigger midi controller than what i have now.. lol.. i would still need to get an amp for concerts or any performance, but that can come later. i will look into those sound modules.. thx ^^..

btw, can i use my altec lansing speakers to connect to a synthesizer? or must i get an amp?.. can anyone give me a rough guage of how much an amp for me would cost?..
