i was learning the same 3 chords from my teacher for 2 yrs..with the same strum pattern..of like 4 times down change chord 4 times change..rinse n repeat..tts all i ever did and after that he stopped teaching me and i look at the books and have no idea what on earth they are talking about and want me to do...so i got this dvd after half a year of saving (im poor) and i learned some new stuff like power chords, about hammer ons and pull offs..and the rest was too complicated to even comprehend...after that totally gave up on guitars...for a yr..and now im back,...i really wanna be good u know..i love music man...i cud never slp witout it since i was a kid..n when i got my discman id fall asleep listenin to it almost everynite...like what u guys said eh..chin up and all..im not gonna give up ya..just wish someone can guide me..sincerely u know..not for the 10~15 bucks per hr but cus they truely wanna teach..oh well..thanks =)

Dude...we all start from bottom, even some of us start worst than you are! me needs to travel 45 minutes every 3 or 5 days to play at frenzz house so i can get an amp,fx and guitar but what i found there is an awfull sound and sucks playin'! but hey, i wanna learn that's the motivation.Let's say those guy from Metallica and Iron maiden r good(which is they are!) but they didn't come for one night learn to be in that level! need times, persistence and hard work to go there, so set your mind and start grab the guitar again...keep on play until you drop dude!

i feel like trying my fade to black already ^^ thanks need more motivation..wis i can store it in a jar...also another question...i cant tell the what note it is by hearing it...is this normal? cus i hear ppl say stuff abt tone deaf..what is that? do i have it?

don't worry. you're like most people. perfect pitch, which is the ability to identify any note you hear, is rare.

Kind of but actually you can train your ear with some software or program on computers to recognize notes or tones fast. Juzz ask those guys in here what program or software that good enough for ear training. My vocal coach can tell exactly what chords that i play or what note is it but he's one of the kind...beside he Music school graduated  ! you'll grow along time dude juzz keep on playin and have fun with your guitar...
hope you all the best...ask in here if you have any question or doubt, many potential and good guitar player in this forum! you are in the right place to ask, dude!

Take care and Good Luck!

Happy Playin'

ive got plenty of questions...for which i tink ya'll prob punch me in the face for talkin too much...hehe..im lazy reading technical stuff..so i rather ask n get a much simplified version...what songs should i start out with to learn on my guitar? thats not too easy yet not too hard and that would make me feel good if i could master it ^^

Start wif the one you loved the most, the no1 song that you like!!! try to arrange several songs that you like in order...start the most you like until the less but you still like it! make a list about 20 to 30 songs for starting out! if you feel that it's hard for you to try learn the no.1 left it for awhile then go to 2nd etc.IMHO,start with some pop songs if you want to learn rhythm better, then climb up to pop rock songs and then some standard rock or easy rock songs and then start there you can learn blues and country songs. If you want to reach the higher level...then it's time for you to try learn classics music and music theory!
More than words by Extreme, To be with you by Mr. Big, love is on the way by saigon kick...those are songs that easy to strum and fun to be played but can train your rhythm feel better...pay attention to the songs closely and try to play along with the cd or comp.
that's all from the start
sorry for talking too much

Fade to Black
call of the kutlu
dance of death
brave new world
sweet child of mine
educated fool
mutter
sonne
broken home
between angels and insects
numb

haha not many songs....think ill have to lay off the solos and call of the kutlu prob be the last to learn rite? seems really hard..maybe i sud get better 1st b4 attempting it..haha...

What are some of the techniques that i should focus and practice that would help me build up accuracy and speed..what are also the other techniques that metal and rock guitarists use? examples would be cool too..thanks =)

yep got that..working on it already...pull offs is painful..not sure if im doing it right...one finger on a fret, and then another one hits e fret and pulls e string off yes? if im wrong do say the right way..and if im right..how do u pull off the thicker strings? say the D G B strings...i keep hittin eveyrthing else...
and if someone is kind enough can list down the different techniques and how their done please ^^ thank you

Ha ha ha

Sofyan is right one of the most important techniqeu is alternate picking.
if you using thin strings that wud b a big help for you to apply pull offs and hammer ons.
try to learn some slides, palm muted and harmonics wud b cool way to know guitar is a exotic instrument =)

It's a cool techniques to show off...ha ha ha.read some guitar techniques books and learn how to do that.Lots of heavy metal band using this killer techniques sound!!!
