Logic Touch Tracks Feature

Recently I have become aware that logic allows you to do this:

http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/dec04/articles/logicnotes.htm

Basically it means you can trigger an entire section of your arrangement assigned to a midi note on the keyboard, and any other midi gear with note on/off function. This is pretty nifty for live performance, but I'm wondering is there any alternatives to logic, since it is mac only?

I'm starting to have ideas like hooking up a hardware sampler to the laptop, sequencing the heck out of it and triggering the massive carnage of notes with a press of a midi pedal during live. Saves sample time too.

Ableton live seems to only offer a a point and click interface in the arrangement view as far as I know. Is it possible to assign a midi note to the cue buttons?

Cheers!

Sonar can do that as well. It's becoming more of a norm as more and more people are into loop-based production and DJ'ing.

It's a great feature but under used - as is the hyper editor.

You could drag whole MIDI sequences, even Apple loops to the touch tracks.

The delay line and transform are worth experimenting too..

Actually, you don't need a hardware sampler with Logic.

In version nine, you could record anything into Logic and easily turn it into an EXS24 Instrument. Logic will detect all the transients in the Audio file and map every transient to a key for triggering. According to your preference of course.. :)

Arrange Window local menus: Audio>Convert to .... Instrument

Why don't you go for Logic instead? It's got all the recording and Performing tools. Along with a ton of relevant/irrelevant stuff.

Best.

You could use a foot controller or any MIDI device that sends a MIDI note event to trigger stuff in Live.

Join the FCB1010 yahoo group to learn more, folks there are doing it and I bet you could get some more answers/ info from there.

Live is a great Looping/ performing tool Imo. But Logic/Mainstage is DaBomb and offers much more. It now comes with a Looper plugin! Oh what hours of fun!

Best.

yup logic alone is worth getting into mac..logic for composition/performance and PT for mixing/editing..opening up another can of worms here hahahaha..

I'm very sure PT will catch up soon with their current software team. I was pretty amazed when they released version 8 with elastic audio, not to mention ease of use.

Best.
