Logic Pro Workshop

Hi all,

I'm in the process of planning for a Logic Pro workshop. I'm just wondering how many of you will actually be interested, and would attend the event.

Also what's the most important feature/s in a DAW before you make the purchase.

i am currently using logic.. so i would be interested.

i guess i would consider workflow as one of the main important things to be covered. such like logic pro 8 comping for audio is pretty cool!!! hahas... and yea MIDI as well..

oh might as well, do you know if i could copy and paste automation in logic for audio? i tried to copy and paste automation but it just didnt work, its quite a bother espically when i am having loops that are doing the same automation over and over again i had to draw out this automoation and repeat it again and again... :(

I don't mind attending to learn more about Logic. Count me in.

I guess the most important feature for me isn't really A feature, more like it being feature packed enough for veterans and yet easily accessible by novices who are trying to use the program for the first time

Liatena

Yep, definitely covering new workflow techniques if it comes through...

Try holding Shift+click drag the selection of "nodes" in the automation track. Press Command+C to copy the nodes/ Select the destination (track), then press Command+V.... Wala!
Works for Audio and MIDI tracks.

btw you can hold Ctrl+option drag an automation line to create automation curves. (there are 4 types of curves concave/convex/Horizontal/vertical "S" curves)
Have fun!

uhhhs! cool i didnt know it works. that surprise me, but can i duplicate it..

like say i got a -1 0 +1 automation going on, and i want the pattern to repeat? i tried the shift + click ones.. but it only works on a different tracks and at the same particular time? i guess? ...
hahas. i usually click the ESC button and shift to the curve crusor to do curve shapes! but your tip had make it alot easier! THANKS!!! :]

well if we are going to have a course on it. what are the price range we would be looking at and is there any certs like Protools 101? /:] is this too much to ask foro :p

Hey mate,

I reckon you're trying to copy the automation data to the same track but at another bar?

Shift+drag the nodes to highlight what you wanna copy/ Hold option and drag any one of the "nodes" to the right and you'll see the results real time...

The workshop I'm planning for is solely a workshop to raise awareness for the open minded DAW owner/ Composers/ Arrangers/ Producers/ Musicians, to consider the switch to Logic.... not to teach the software, but to have fun composing/arranging and producing in Logic! Lotsa tips and tricks of course!

Hey Logicdroid, it just dawned on me. It will be REALLY interesting to add in your workshop Redmatica's Keymap 1.5. This is the indispensable tool for Logic users. So much so that I believe Keymap found it's way into the Logic manual.

Do you use Keymap?

I've only tried the trial - got it when I bought Logic's training book. But yeah, very very useful tool indeed. There's not too many Logic users around - not sure if the workshop's gonna happen.... Perhaps we can get a end user group together... share ideas.

People who attends doesn't have to use Logic. You could make the workshop in such a way that it presents what Logic could do. People who uses other DAW but is keen to migrate from their software to Logic or even from PC to Mac may be interested. Asking in the forum doesn't quite give you a good indication. Many people won't post here. Easier to just use a poll function. Or talk to James and see if this can be a SOFT event (perhaps combined with other software aspects of things - which means it wouldn't be a purely Logic workshop).

Or...(brainstorming) - we can have a SOFT software event (maybe call it SOFTware event) which encompasses various "stations" - one of them could be Logic. Others could be Reason (I recall somebody interested to have a Reason workshop), samplers, softsynths etc. People interested in that particular topic could just go to that "station". Then make it into a rotational basis so people can attend more than 1 station. Perhaps 1 hour per session in the afternoon on a rotational basis? Only problem is we don't want all the noise from each station to affect the other stations... Don't know how they did it in NAMM or Musikmesse.

As for Keymap, I think you should really get it. I can see you are a softsampler user (I could see a few East West samples boxes in the pics you posted in the "show you home studio" thread). Keymap is really useful for samples. Unfortunately, I use the PC version of Logic. If I'm a Mac user, I would get it.

Hey Cheez, nothing negative in regards to the workshop. It'll take a little time.. That'll give me more time to look into keymap. And yeah, EWQLSO rocks! The keyswitches are awesome! Just sucking up tons of my system's RAM.

Yeah, you'll probably do better with 16 or 32 GB, since you are on the Mac. Otherwise, it's going to be VST farms - slave PCs running samples. EWQLSO lets you install on more than 1 PC anyway!

Logic Pro is currently 32-bit, but it can address 64-bit "as necessary" according to their specs. That means is you have a plugin that's 64-bit (eg, Kontakt 3 when their 64-bit version comes out later this year), you'll be able use more than 4 GB RAM for that plugin. Also, EXS24 which comes with Logic, if I'm not wrong, is no longer limited to 32bit - which means you can load more samples with more RAM.

More VST plugins are moving into 64 bit. Certainly, the new PLAY engine by East West supports 64 bit; the new ARIA engine by Garritan is also 64-bit, Vienna Ensemble engine is coming out with the 64-bit for Mac soon etc.

Yup, they recommend at least 5 gig to use EXS24.

If you meant that you want the automation to stick with the regions..

Preferences-->Automation

There's an option for you to Move Automation With Regions.
