Hey u guys,do u thing sporean band can make it big in the music scene? In singapore i mean.Cos the way i see it,local bands always be hot for a couple of mth but then VANISH...do u think it is good if singapore have a tv channel consist of only,ONLY local bands?A place for local and youth musicians to call home?i feel that we DO NOT HAVE ENOUGH SUPPORT AND EXPOSURE..example,SINGAPORE IDOL is hot.Why not make SCHOOL OF ROCK as hot as SINGAPORE IDOL??Do u agree my fellow musicians?

Somehow that post seemed ironic to me. Cuz I found that Singapore Idol fits the "hot for a couple of mth but then VANISH" description better. Admittedly, I was crazy about Taufik. But now, he's just another singer out there. And sly is forgotten and so on. But the local bands that I've been supporting, are still in the scene. So yeah. =\

The most obvious examples I would choose-Electrico, Ronin. They started out humbly. Gig by gig, they gain more supporters. And now, their singles are getting alot of radio airplay. They're not the only bands too. There's other bands out there who has already made it big or are constantly rising in the local scene. Sooner or later, you'll even be hearing WGB's singles everywhere! Haha. Okay my point is that, competitions are more often than not, just passing fads. You get overnight fame, but would soon be forgotten if you don't continue putting in effort. But yeah, the school of rock winners are still around anyways and they're still as awesome. Just don't compare them to Singapore Idol cuz I'm pretty sick of the 'idol' phenomenon. =\

*points to soft's post*

the band can get as much exposure as they want if they put an effort to it.
keep performing and ppl will get to know you.
for support, it all depends on what type of music people listen to.
music. there is rnb and hip hop. not forgetting j pop and etc etc. so, due to our population constraint, some ppl listen to this, some to that, therefore, the crowd might seem small.
to answer your question, yes singaporean bands can make it.
theres some obvious bands...
it'd be great to have SMTV, but, .....
maybe the term "underground" works just nice. :D
