Little survey on CD buying

Hello all,

Im wondering how many people still buy CDs? Or does everyone just download now?

For those who buy CDs, what makes you go to a particular store? And if someone were to open a little CD store focusing on indie/ alternative and local music, what would you like to see/ have there and would you patronise?

Just a little survey :p

All feedback and 2, 3 or 4 cents worth welcome :)

Thanks!

hi there 8)

i'm still buying CDs- don't believe in downloading music. the stuff i listen to are kinda limited in availability, not available off the shelf most of the time- mostly black metal & guitar instrumentals.

the reasons for patronizing certain stores:

*good/ personalized service (eg: the store owner i'm patronizing, SMS me once my ordered items are in stock)
*promtness
*discounts/ freebies (posters etc)

I'm totally into buying cds/dvds. I get more than 10 pieces a month via online orders. In fact, I do alot of orders for ppl here in soft too.

Other then showing support for the music you love, i like to see them stacking up. Much like collecting stamps. Well, that's just me.

I still buying ORIGINAL CD.
Mostly online.
For Japanese CD, I buy from www.hmv.com.
For Korean CD, I buy from www.yesasia.com.
For Chinese CD, I still buy locally.

Alternatively,
If I buy Korean CD locally, I will choose those made in Korea one...
If I buy Japanese CD locally, I will choose those International release from Taiwan/ Hong Kong (NOT bootleg).

Although I only buy original CD & don't support piracy,
I HATE Copy Control CD (CCCD, or Copy Protected CD).
Reasons:
1. Can't be played in my company's workstation (as it need administrator mode).
2. When played in PC, the sound quality is reduced.

Agree!!! That's also one of the reasons why I buy original CD.

BTW, For those CD made in China, Eh... Hm... I seldom buy.

I buy CDs from HMV,
cheap China pressed mandarin CDs from Chinatown

on the contrary, i browse through titles @ HMV but will never buy the jazz/ metal offerings there- cut-throat prices.

I still buy CDs. Nothing beats owning the entire package and listening to the music in its full glory. I usually buy my CDs online nowadays though.

I wonder how much that has to do with the general consumer perception that uncompressed 16bit/44.1khz (a.k.a. CD quality) is STILL (in 2006) better than ANY compressed format. To me, its more like "superstition".

Maybe just to find out for yourself, try compressing your favourite tune (something you've listened to a thousand times) in higher bitrate WMA 10 or even Ogg Vorbis. Get a friend to help you do a blind test. If you can hear the difference in quality, congrats cos I think you either belong to the group of audiophiles or own such equipment. Or you should seriously consider starting a career in sound engineering.

To me nothing beats the thought that one day, all music from any corner of this world may be available instantaneously with a few clicks of buttons, either on the PC (or whatever it's called by then), or the portable media device (handphone cum pda cum player cum etc).

sorry for sidetracking the topic, but I was just "surveying" for myself why people still prefer buying CDs.
