Line out 1 to studio monitors?

Hello people!

i am using a creative fatality 5.1 soundcard on my pc
i am using an average 5.1 speakers connecting to the line out, 1 2 3(green, black, orange) to the soundcard

lets say i would like to swap the front speakers with a pair of studio monitors.
how do i plug the studio monitors into the green(line out 1) jack? will there be loss of quality?

that way i will have front left and right as my studio monitors. and still retain rear speakers and subwoofer.

i can easily just use a new card like asus essence to just connect the studio monitors i guess. but lets say the method mention above, isit doable?

-i have an audiofire4 not in use.. can i use that?
e.g line 1 out --> audiofire4 --> studio monitors??

comments? advice?

thanks!!

You should be able to connect to a studio monitor as long as it is self-powered or you have an amp to power it. Which monitors are you getting?

hmm planning to get either adam 5 or adam 7.. haven't had time to listen to them.

not sure if there be a loss in quality, from the green line out of my creative soundcard to my studio monitors?

If you are looking at such grades of monitors, I suggest you use the audiofire4 instead. It should have a better digital-to-analogue converter.

What are you planing to do with this setup? Record/mix or just listening to music?

for the most part, music listening and film edits.

few years back i think i was looking at dynaudio bm5a

got to admit the infernal affairs speakers scene made me want to upgrade my pc speakers

what other grades is there?
i can't afford those 10k grade amps and speakers :)

Hello Roxs,
To answer your question about quality loss. Yes, there will be loss of quality since you will most likely be forced to use inferior cable coming out of that line out. The output stage of your soundcard is also unlikely to be of the high end grade variety. And you may also not get enough gain coming out of a consumer level -10dbV equipment to a professional level +4dbu equipment.

For soundcard wise, it depends on your taste. Go for something higher end and less colored with lower jitter like an RME is a good starting point.

And.... 10k grade amps and speakers are worth it. ;)

thanks for recommendation the RME does looks like a solid piece of equipment.

1. There are good quality audio cables, but are there good quality power cables?
let's say the stock power cable a bit short, where should i find some decent power cables?
