Hi everyone. Jus wanna know ur opinions on this? wld u rather go for a guitar which plays superbly, has a very nice tone but a lesser known brand for a good price or wld u go for a big brand with an average sound, average playability for the same price?

and why?

i think u better post tis in the rookie corner or gear for guitar...

but i think most important thing all musician wants is sound right? not the brand

i'm not looking for a new guitar. it's an argument me n my band mate have. so tt's y i tot this is the best place to put it. pls correct me if im wrong. how i disagree tt all big brands are neccesarily better. and i know a lot of ppl who put more stock in brands than tone

obviously the one that plays better. why even bother asking?

music is not like sports or <insert other highly commercialized industries' name>. Would you give a damn if Vai/malmsteen/satriani or whoever was playing a brandless guitar? I mean, aslong as they produce good music and put on a good show, we dont really care do we?

Pretty straightforward imo

I go for something with the specifications (body wood, neck wood, fret wood, neck construction, what type of pickups Humbuckered or single, bridge, knobs) that i want.
and i dont mind the brands.

simple as that.

To put it simply. It has to do with the feel and connection u have with the guitar when u play.the brand is not an issue to me.So,stick to ur principles, bro.gd luck!:)

Well, I think it really depends.

Eg. My personal guitar hero is SRV, and he plays a Fender. So i'd definitely feel really special rockin out to "pride n joy" on a nice American Fender Strat and nothin' else.

We all know that there are hordes of wonderful strat copies out there, but for me, there's nothing like looking to your left from the corner of your eye (apologies to the lefties out there!) and seeing that familiar headstock with the big cursive "F". Sexy.

Of course, i'm assuming that the guitar sounds great in the first place.. heh..

And for the Les Paul lovers out there... c'mon... it's a primal feeling holding a GIBSON Les Paul in your hands. It's like, "fwah... solid man...*wipes drool*... "

Just my personal opinions! :)

well to me, playability and tone is more important than brand. my bandmate tho argues tt a better brand always mean better playability and tone altho i've shown him a few branded guitars tt had average construction and average tone for like triple the price of a lesser known brand which played better.

bro doesnt make sense to me haha. so the branded guitars with triple the price played better? dont think thats what you mean yep.:)

well its like racing a Mitsubishi and a Ferrari down a straight road.definetly the ferrari is gonna win.

race it down mountain slopes.Mitsubishi wins.

its a matter of what suits where.these guitars are made to specific type of music style.that is why the 2 words advantage and disadvantage exist.

so, how bout these?
a PRS SE Custom, and a NNG Thai PRS Copy.

my bro says that always go for a brand. assured quality(thou not jaw-some), and better resale value.

bro, do buy the guitar with the intention to sell it away eventually? think about it. quality? see and feel for urself.

to thread topic: always the one which plays and feels better, irregardless of brand. but many guitarists may agree with me: having a gibson les paul will motivate you to play more than a tgm lespaul.

ps: i have a tgm lespaul and it sounds better than epiphone les pauls i tried. better sounding and a quarter the price? why not?

i do buy guitars and gear with consideration to resale value,

sometimes we do go through phases where this thing's good for us now, and not good for us at a later time.

if you ask me, doesnt mean a no brand guitar would suck, but itll just be more difficult to sell.

on the other hand, its not guaranteed that a brand guitar wouldnt suck.

I'm brand conscious in the sense that it must be a reputable brand that people recommend and are familiar with. Brands like Takamine, Taylor, Alvarez, Washburn, Ibanez, Fender, Gibson, etc. These companies know their stuff and have impressed professional musicians with their products. But I'm not someone to stick to a certain brand. If a Washburn plays better than an Ibanez, I'd get it. For me its about the bond. Whether I like its playability, tone, etc. Overall whether of all the guitars I've tried, this one is the best in my opinion.

So yeah I'm brand conscious in a way, but not brand conscious in another way. But the impression a guitar has on me is the number one consideration I have. Which is why I'll never order in any of my gear. I'll try them out in person and decide for myself.

Did I mention that I tried a $1,700 Ibanez and it was terrible. Felt light years behind my $300 Ibanez, which I'm very proud of. So yeah another point I have is do not judge whether a guitar is good by its price.
