les paul

The only thing i cannot stand about the epiphone les pauls is the headstock(well i think its kinda small and not appealing). Since epiphone is endorsed by gibson, why doesn't epiphone have the same headstocks that gibsons have.

probably to draw the line of product difference? i dunno...anyone knows the reason?

On the contrary Burny les pauls have the same headstock shape as gibsons. The differences in these lespauls are that they are usually equipped with the sustainer pickup and the floyd rose as mentioned.

Well test the burnys out and tell us about it!

erm gibson?
list price for a Gibson Les Paul Standard will be $4800
A Gibson Les Paul Custom will be $5600
Gibson Les Paul studio will be around 3k++

FYI swee lee usually gives a 20% discount. So calculate from the list price and add 5% GST and there you have it!

Epiphone used to be a brand by itself that was established way back in early 1900s. For guitar, their head stock had been always like that with some minor changes in shape over the years even when gibson bought over them in 1957. The difference in head stock should be for drawing the line i guess.

For japan made epiphone, there are some headstock that are the same as their gibson counterpart. Those should be for only jap market and not for exporting.

I'll stick to Epiphone

Well, I own an Epiphone Les Paul Custom Flamedtop, and i know that the specs are matched to an Gibson LP Custom Flamedtop. The only difference is the Wood grade.

Its pretty obvious with one look, the gibby one has a nicer and distinct flame than the epi ones, and they are laquered in nitro cellulose, in repeated painstaking layers and they age to give a distinct LP sound.

Epi ones still retain the same specs, lesser flame maple cap, but i think mines pretty decent, cos i dont really need a grade AAAA Brazillian Maple shit thats gona jack the price by the thousands. yeah, the same specs... Mahagony back. rosewood fretboards.

The things you dont get are probably the Kulson tuners, real mother of pearl inlays, real mother of pearl bindings, the gibby pUPs.

For the Epis, the main difference is in manufaturing that makes it cheap. The regular laquer, epi stock tuners and pUPs, hardware, plastic inlays. and the crucial thing.. !!!!! 3 piece neck!!! If you own any epi just examine the back of the neck from the headstock downwards, you'll find that your neck is made up of 3 piece. the main cost cutting factor. Where as in gibby ones, its one Whole piece of maple... or on some really exquisite models a neck tru construction!!

Epi Necks are specially glued to the body.. so every Epi is unique. You gotta choose your Epi carefully. if your neck is physically warped, It is warped forever.. you ccan't change much about it.

But on the whole, when buyin an Epi, just take note of the overall construction, if everything is in order, there shouldnt be any problem.
You just need to set it up nicely with a pro technician and maybe change a few parts like pUPs, tuners, for playability.

I dont know a thing about burny ones.... Maybe you can look out for the same thing, but in this case the issue might just be Money, or the features... like the sustainer/floyd.. Which i think is damn bo liao...

My epi doesnt need sustainers or floyd. It just doesnt

I would still recommend burny. I own a gibson lp and i say burny plays like the real thing. But the important thing is try each guitar for yourself and see which one suits you most.

I've tried Burnys at luthers before.

I've tried Burnys at luthers before. Its just feels like a copy. Hehe, cant say much after that.

And oh yah, anyone wana try my guitar ? haha. Let you feel the power !! hahaha

Say the truth, unless you put some good pickups, it's not going to sound like the real thing. But I would say try both. Reviews cannot be compared to testing it yourself. The neck feel, weight, cutaway dimensions is different.

Yeah... if you have enough cash to spare, get the real thing. You can buy second hand from ebay, yahoo auction. But you must be careful of cheaters. And remember only a gibson is good enough.

Yeah... i own one. LP standard. The cheapest is the special. But i would not recommend getting that. At least get a studio. You can get a SG or Xplorer too. Both great guitars.

The different is in the pickups, the binding and the wood grade. All these are spec of 2004 gibson guitars. If you buy another year guitar, it might be different.
