Lemon oil on maple fretboard??

Yesterday I sprayed lemon oil on my strat maple fretboard three times. Yea I know this is retarded, because I forgot to read the instructions behind the lemon oil bottle.

Questions:
1) Is it ok to spray lemon oil on maple fretboard? I heard lemon oils should not be applied on maple fretboard. If I do so, will is dry out or seep into the wood?

2) Will it discolour the wood to yellow just applying it once?

3) What will happen if I spray it on the fretboard instead of applying it on the cloth and then use the cloth to wipe the fretboard?

4) If I overuse lemon oil on the fretboard, what will happen?

fyi my fretboard is a rolled fretboard.

Sorry for asking so many questions!!!! :(

Thanks in advance!

nothing will happen if it's this once. if you need to clean your maple fretboard, a regular polish concoction will do- just wipe it down during string change or after play.

If the neck is finished, should not be a problem at all. At least now you know not to use lemon oil for maple fretboard so that's ok already.

next time you can use lighter fluid on your maple fretboard, works wonder.
heard this from my friend, correct me if im wrong.

i do use a little lemon oil to clean my maple fretboard from time to time.
although it does not have magical effects, i use it as a soft lubricant for cleaning and also i kinda like the smell of lemon oil.

No harm done if its just a little bit and only if your fretboard is finished
:)

What I did is that I did'nt follow the instructions behind and sprayed it directly on the fretboard, then I clean it. Will the acid in the oil damage the finish?

Do american standard strats have finishes on it?

Yes it is satin finished for the neck and poly finished for the body. Lemon oil is not dangerous. it probably has lesser acid as compared to a real lemon. don't worry about it damaging the guitar too much. Things like spilling super glue or dropping heavy objects on the guitar would harm it even more.

If I were you, I would use lighter fluid to clean up the fretboard once in a while and spend more time playing the guitar rather than cleaning it up. Don't be so paranoid really.
