Latency Issues

Hi i just bought a nanopad. n when i run with FL studio, i cant use the pad efficiently as when i hit the pads the sound came out abit later. Does that mean the audio output settings i change from the primary soundcard driver in my laptop to a detected audio interface or a soundcard?

Actually,im getting an audio interface soon.will it help? Right now with my primary sound driver the sound crackles at times due to high usage of memory in the default laptop's sound card.

Which is better? changing a new soundcard or getting an audio interface? Both can settle the issue right? Please sumone help me out.

Try downloading ASIOforall and install the ASIO driver. Built-in soundcards uses the MME drivers of Windows - which causes lots of latency problems.

For best solutions, get an audio interface. For notebooks, there are firewire, USB and PCMCIA/Expresscard solutions. If you don't need preamps and lots of in/outs, I would suggest Echo Indigo (Expresscard). Frees up your firewire should you need external firewire HDs.

The other thing - for audio apps, always use a dedicated boot partition. That means the boot partition only has audio apps and no Office/internet/antivirus/games etc. You can do that with dual booting. Search the forum and you'll find lots of discussions on dual boot. This will give you the fastest and most stable setup.

Before you try getting an audio interface, do try ASIOforall. It will/should signficantly improve your latency issues.

bro,thanks so much for ur help.the asio4all improved my sound.lesser latency. though for some VSTs i used in FL causes abit of crackle in the sound. guess im still getting an audio interface. but definitely the sensitivity on my nanopad improved. thanks a milli bro!

can i create a disk partition with just a vista itself? coz i got vista oni.

yes. You can. Go to Computer Management. Then Storage, Disk Manager or sth. You will see all your hard disks and partitions there. Select the one that you wan. Then partition it. But you cannot partition your active drive though. If you wan to partition your active drive you have to use Acronis Disk Manager. It is by far, the best disk manager tool I've used. If you wanna add more space in the partition, you can take free space from you other free partition. And it can do a lot of other crap as well.

Use a smaller buffer size while recording - reduces latency. :-D
Bigger size when mixing.
