AHEM! well mr zenguan is now a proud owner of logic pro 7.2 LOLS, making cheez jealous as he is a PC user ha,. oh but sadly my MAC heaven arrive yet.

well okay that was some side track so heres the point...

as i am a student now i get to take advantage of the educational discount in APPLE STORE, apperently i brought logic for only 1K wheras the usual is 1.9K . APPLE took my order in 5 minutes during 2pm and i got the goods at the same day at 6pm which is like now?? KUDOS TO APPLE : D

however 5 minutes after i placed my order i came across this ebay website
http://cgi.ebay.com.sg/Apple-LOGIC-...7QQihZ010QQcategoryZ41786QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem apperntly theres an educational version and by buying that you are not entitled to any upgrades in the future? NOW I AM WORRIED I BROUGHT THAT!! can anyone helped me : (

however i check the product code (MA328Z/A) and it is similar to the retail version of logic 7.2 you guys could google the code and you will find it. however i am still worried , do anyone knows who can i turn to , or what can i do to check that my logic is actually the full retail version and is able to upgrade .

thanks guys : )

Best if you contact apple directly and ask them. You can always change it if you they your version is unable to upgrade.

Even then, it will probably take Apple a long time before version 8 is out. You should be able to udpate to all version 7 patches.

I'm using version 4 (and yes, the PC version...) and so far has not changed to Sonar or DAW software - simply because it works. There are some other newer features I would like to have, but I can still survive.

Well, I'm not jealous since Gigastudio cannot run on the Mac.... :D

Oops. Look like Logic 8 may not arrive according to this rumour:

http://arstechnica.com/journals/apple.ars/2007/2/27/7253

Quoting from the site:
"Basically the rumor is this: There will be no Logic 8. The successor to Logic 7 will have a new name. The unnamed application will be 10.5 only and will work with a new line of touch sensitive Apple displays. Also, it will be an OMG PROTOOLS KILLER!@!! "

It appears Logic will be on multi-touch screen. True or not???

cheez i was joking : D

well but with logic 7.2 i would be able to start putting up some stuff hopefully!

omg you scare me with that link lols, yea, i guess protools is an industry standard cos of the support it gave? the many plug ins that can be used with it and espically the 9 processing chips you get in HD.not to mention the way it does audio editing way surpress that of logic. i read reviews that the pianoroll or editing MIDI in protools aint that good,i have not use other software other than protools and find the MIDI thingy about protools is rather okay though , no complains with it : D

i brought logic bcos of the sample library it comes along with, the many plugins in logic also attracted me. AND I AM USING A MAC , hahas why not get logic , since it only caters to MAC right : D

however i forsee logic going towards that apperently with the nodes function, both are still a hefty investment. good thing protools come out with ICON or logic might just take over completely . well again its dues to each and its own opinion. logic has stuff that protools dont have , protools do have stuff that logic dosent have too

: D

Logic is really an interesting program. The learning curve is huge if you've never used it before. People (including me) have been wondering why don't they make it more user-friendly, in particular their Environment screen. However, once you get used to it, the Environment screen becomes indispensable. So it's a love-hate thing. Something you dislike initially will grow into something indispensable.

Anyway, hope you get hours of fun with it! And yes, the plug-ins are excellent.

Actually for mac products in Singapore there is no distinguising feature on whether its educational or retail.

Its just that we give students more discount, however, that is part of apple's initiative.

And yes the product code is the same.

Another avenue that musicians wanna take is Adobe's new soundbooth.

It should ship some time in June.

There is no difference for education and retail versions of Apple Pro Application Software other than the price. Upgrades for these software, however, are fixed in price, that is, there is no education pricing for upgrades.
