I had so much fun playing with it yday nite. I plugged in my cheap TGM strat copy and boy it made it sound like an expensive guitar! My fav settings are the tweed and vox ac30tb. The other od/dist settings didnt sound good with my TGM cos maybe I need a humbuckered guitar which I dun have at the moment.
The effects on board are very cool sounding but the only thing I hate about them is if u wanna adjust the level, mix, repeats of a particular effect, I have to press and hold down the button all the way and adjust it with the knob, tat leaves my one hand stuck on the amp and the other on the guitar to test the sound..am I doin anything wrong here?

Overall its a good value for money amp. Glad I chose this over the 15W version. The 30W was $50+ more. Tonite gona plug in my `95 Fender Mexican Strat that I just collected back from Guitar Connection for repair and its gonna be better experience than what I went thru with my TGM...hehe..: )

Hey I got the same amp too and I loved the AC30TB mod as well, esp the overdriven tone, its so thick and sweet . I have a humbucker guitar, but like u, din really like those higher gain amp mods, i think its boils down to personal taste not the guitar. As for the effects u are not doin anythin wrong, its meant to be this way cos due to a lack of onboard buttons for u to tweak. I only like the compressor and flanger. All in all a good amp :D Tell me how it sounds with a strat, cos may get a strat in the near future..heh

On the contrary, I do like the sound of the JCM800 modeller on my Voxad30vt. The sound of the JCM800 thru my alnicoII pro humbuckler and boosted by my OD-3 sounds really warm, rich and full of sustain

The onboard effects are much more extensive and tweakable than the Cube30. You are doing nothing wrong there man. I think the knob is fine though. Just got to get used to it...

Wow i plugged in my fender mexican strat yday and the sound is even better. It really shines on the clean settings esp the tweed and blackface. But OD settings are still too mushy for my taste. What I did was turn up the master volume all the way up and then control the overall vol using the power soak at the back. Hmm, so how do u guys set up ur tone n volume to ur taste? Care to share? Maybe I better put the master volume to halfway up and see if sounds better on the OD settings.

Oh yah, for ur info, theres a forum for us Vox valvetronix owners. Its at www.patchtronix.com

: )

I usually set my master and volume at 3 o clock and adjust the wattage according to volume. My gain is around 12 o clock.

One thing I don't like about the patchtronix site is that the settings and patches are meant for higher end vt models with presence control. Not a lot of 15/30vt patches there...

Yeah the patchtronix site is just nt for every valvetronix owners out there but I do find the forum reads interesting like speaker change etc..

Which reminds me..any of u guys ever thought of changing the 12AX7 tube in the amp? I`ve read reviewers saying they have done it and it improved the tone...hmm...

The valvetronix excels in its overdrive sounds, but not so good on the high gain, but it has more built in effects and has u have more control over the parameters than the cube 30. the vox also has a power damper, that is u can tweak the wattage output from 0 to 30 watts, especially useful when u are practicising at night. The vox has 11 amp mods, the cube has 8 amp mods.

So if i aspire to play lead guitar would the cube be the better bet? I've recently just started playing electric after playing bass and keyboards for many years. I'm a fairly decent strummer on acoustic guitar but would like to learn to do some lead on electric guitar.

The valvetronix is the best amp in its price range. I tested it against a host of other amps..... Line6 SpiderII, Vetta, Marshall AVT etc..

It sounds really warm. But I also agree its not a high gain amp.... the cleans are pretty decent IMHO.

If u want higher gain then cube 30 will be better, but if u want something middle of the ballpark then the valvetronix is better, thing to take note is that the valvetronix does have some high gain amp mods like messa boogie, soldano, and marshalls. But its just that these higher gain mods dosent sound that good to me.

The cube has really nice cleans, sounds better than anything you can find on the AD30Vt. So does my Smarvo - the clean also nice...

Pier.
