jem neck on ibanez s470?

hi guys,

i wanna know if i can install on 24 fret jem neck on my ibanez s470 which currently has a 22 fret neck???

please help if you know anything related to this

all advice will be appreciated!!

i think u can't do that..
why do u want to switch neck?? it has wizard neck doesn't it?? very nice neck contour for fast playing

considering the bolt holes placement, neck heel shape
its same 25.5" scale but u have 22 fret and the jem 24.. the jem neck is longer than yours so it wont match with your current bridge to nut length.. :???:

if u r insist u should take ur guitar to a luthier ... :D

why dont u make a new neck with tree of life inlays?
but u can't have 24 frets 'coz the neck position Pick-up preventing u to have a 24 fret .. unless u take out the neck pick up so u can lengthen ur 22 fret to 24 fret :)

thanks for the advice but i was wondering if i can still keep the neck pickup, maybe change the neck pickup cover to those which has an opening nearer to the neck?

just like the ibanez egen for herman li

will that work?

or maybe push my neck pickup nearer to the bridge?

That wont work either. The ONLY way for an S series (AANJ) to have a 24 fret neck, is to get the old square heel RG necks, take out your neck pick up and get a luthier to hack a hole nearer to the middle pick up (So that your 24th fret can go in), and redrill the neck holes. BTW, just for your info, an authentic Ibanez Jem 7V replacement cost more than a S470.

Yea. I saw his Egen. His has 24th fret because it was designed and factory made with 24th fret. The diff between a Jem neck and a Super wizard (if your talking about square heels one of course) is the thickness. Super wizard has 17mm first fret and 19 mm on the 12 fret. Jem on the other hand is like a JAPANESE wizard II, 19 mm on the first fret and 21 mm on the 12th fret. Now, the main diff between a wizard II and a jem neck is the radius, which makes the jem neck feels more like a super wizard. jem has a 430mm radius while the wizard II has a 400mm radius. Take note, there is a HUGE diff between korean made, indo made and Japan made wizard II necks. Use a calipers and u immediately know. Feels very very diff also. It's almost like a big mac vs a double cheese burger diff. (altho i do agree that mac donals here make them taste the same.. somewhat)
 
haha yeah man.....wanted to buy the new s5470 but i heard there were sustain issues with that guitar. haiz
 
flame , herman li' S series have 24 fret... but yours 22 fret...
it is the same model, but it has slightly differences in the body cut where u usually reach higher fret 20-22/24 ... herman li's S series has a deeper cut on the body to reach the 24th fret... but ur axe doesn't have it... so when u lengthen ur fretboard to 24 fret.. u'll find difficulty to play on 23-24th fret (but u still can lengthen it to 24fret if u want to) and u cant play ur neck PU anymore coz u have to take it out from ur axe

if u still want ur neck PU, the neck PU pocket has to be moved closer to the bridge also the middle PU should follow to ... which are u should bring ur axe to luthier ... and have a guitar surgery :p .. n then he should repaint your axe ...

my opinion ... dont change it... maintain your guitar's originality
 
just keep it as 22 frets.....i personally prefer the tone of a 22 fret neck to a 24. It just has that certain sweetness which a 24 fret neck dosent.

Just dont spend too much money on mods when you could be better off getting a new guitar!

haha yea wanna get the s5470 but i got no funds right now and im pretty contended with my s470

as for the jem, i tried my friend's one and it didnt feel right, i guess im too used to my s470 already. but i really like the tree of life inlay. hahaha

anyway thanks eclipze for the advice, and not forgetting the rest of you who help, i got a clearer picture of this issue. thanks a million

or maybe i should get a tree of life inlay on my s470, but i cant seem to find 22 fret necks with the tree of life inlay.....

hmmmmmm wonder if there is such a thing hahha
 
yea, sometimes your upgrades can cost you a bomb.
was quoted 1k plus for upgrades sometime back and with that i can get a freaking new guitar ..
