Jeff Berlin - Tears in Heaven (!!!!!!!!!) BASS

hey orcfiend .. you'd wanna check out Brian Bromberg's "Never Give Up" ... "Come To Me" and "Bass Face" .. goodness ... *drools*

yeah i've heard brian bromberg
there's this one album where it's just him and a drummer, and honestly, i was fooled into thinking there were actually guitars involved..but all bass. amazed man. he has this jaco tribute album too

jeff berlin's a bass virtuoso :p

and this song, is done on his signature dean 4-string 20 frets (i think)

amazing, eh?

it's called piccolo bass .. =) .. i may want to get one but i'll keep my eyes on my fretless 5 and fretted 6 first lah ..

or are u talking abt brian bromberg? i know he uses piccolo basses

brian bromberg ... i've never really heard jeff berlin before ... but bromberg is a genius man .. seriously ... man ... *drools* ...

yeah bromberg uses piccolo. hence the guitar sound. powerful man. just saw bass day 98, all the great players , michael manring, vic wooten, rocco prestia, patitucci, etc...blown away

jeff berlin rocks! lol. i still remember the day i showed some of my friends my bass player mag and jeff berlin was on a page advertising some MarkBass amps, and they all said he look really nerdy. but he's really really good at the bass. is this recording done using a normal 4-string bass? i think it is. not a piccolo imo, but i couldn't be really sure cos i dont really hear lots of piccolo bass stuff.

HEY I HAVE THAT BASS PLAYER MAG TOO I THINK

yeah, if i'm not wrong, his signature Dean bass. 4 string, 20 frets (!)

It is a fact that we bassists do not look cool.
We wear our instruments too high most of the time.
We often look too serious or fierce.
We hardly show our face while standing at the back.
Turning off the opposite sex is our best trait.
But heck, I love every moment of it!

hahaha. the fact is most of us didnt pick up bass because we wanted to rip solos and stand at the front basking in the spotlight. play in the pocket and keep the groove 8)

hm. this sets me thinking, what are the worst things a non-bassist ever said to you?

"wow, i like your guitar" HUHH?!?
" bass is much easier than guitar cos it only has 4strings" urmm okay whatever
" Rylche, why did you ever start to play bass? no one hears bass?! " most laymen DO hear bass, they just aren't educated enough to KNOW that it's bass.

well, bass still rocks!

hm ....

the worse things non-bassists said to me was ...

"wah .. how come your guitar neck so long one ah??" ... - dude .. it's a bass .. of course it's long ...

"hey hey! .. can teach me electric??" ... - you mean bass right??

*after a solo piece .... "hey! i love your playing .. how come you can play so fast one ah?? .. i thought bass is just .. dum dum dum .. " ... - *dots... *

i guess that's pretty much it ... i still enjoy being a bassist ...if you didn't realise we can generate a huge tone palatte WITHOUT effects compared to pianist ... guitarists ... blah blah blah ...

=P ..

man ... i'm glad to be a bassist ... WOOT!

we can go from lowest of the low to the highest of the high and make it sound like a piano ..

there are 9-string basses out there for you to solo like mad ... the guitar can't even come close to playing low basslines and sweet high melodies ... hee hee heee ...

are you glad to be a bassist??

Hi orcfiend,

His Dean has 21 frets. I think someone has that bass in Singapore also, thought I saw it somewhere. I like Jeff Berlin's playing too, a very melodic style.
