Jam with hi-fi set?

Yup! It should! Blow up I mean! :D
Probably before that, u'd hear the distortion/limit that the amp has reached and if you choose to ignore this "sign", then it may just to "pop", and think you've all gone deaf!
Besides, how would you plug in 3 guitars in a hi-fi set? U need a mixer of sorts, right?

QF

how much budget do you have for your 'hi-fi' set? or how much is the 'hi-fi' set that you intend to use?

you'd actually be surprised how much some hifi's can take.. i've had to run vocals (screamed), keyboards and 1 guitar into a hifi before at HIGH volumes, playing with a drumkit and a large guitar amp in a (small-ish)room before.

was fully expecting it to blow up at some point but it held and is still going strong today.

get something cheap from cashies or sungei road, but yeah with a grand to spend you might as well get amps, or even a small PA system.

i think you'll find that using hi-fi sets to jam can be quite frustrating as all the sounds of the guitars may be not what you're looking for. Hi-fi sets are consumer products, meant to play music and stuff, sure you can jam along with it but it may not be really good, not for the speakers, but for the band guys ..

a better choice would be a small PA system that will work much better compared to a hi-fi set. i think you can get a small mixer and a set of speakers for under 1K ...
