hey does anyone know any software where I can isolate the sound from a video? the video i have is in format MPEG-2

Go to eRightSoft
Download the super software. its a freeware so there's is no legal issues to worry about.
After installing the program, run it and convert your video file to mp3. It will just rip the mp3 out from the video. It works with quite a number of file types as well.

Hoped that helps....

There is no need to install any extra software.

First, set your PC to record from the wave out mix...

1.) Open volume control (double click speaker icon in the taskbar)
2.) Goto options/properties
3.) press the recording button then ok
4.) click the select box below Wave Out Mix and turn it's level up.

Next open Sound Recorder. It's in the Start Menu, Accessories, Entertainment. You need to do a save first to set the correct format. Press record then play the video.

You can use this method to record any audio playing on your sound card. ie. Youtube, Skype, games etc. etc. You can also use this method to convert DRM protected audio files into wave files. Technically that means Microsoft Windows violates the DCMA and should be illegal since it assists in bypassing a copy protection scheme.

to topup widdly's method , soundrecorder a.k.a sndrec32.exe can only record 1 min.
to bypass that 1 minute limitation you have to first record a blank 60 secs, then when it hits the end, press record again and again until you hit beyond. then save it as "blank.wav"
open blank.wav , scroll back all the way and start recording as you like.

then again it may be just easier to download those rippers.
