Ishibashi Music

Which part of Jpn are you going to? Urban, sub-urban or rural area? Urban areas have a lot of guitar stores, imagine the competition...
If you are going to an urban area, make sure you find and explore a guitar store! We won't forgive you if you don't!!!
It's a real eye-opener, loads of stuff on the racks, Swee Lee, Davis and Yamaha Music Plaza don't have anything on them... Be prepared for potential communication problems though... In the Japanese market, there are Ibanez models that are unavailable in S'pore, and the selling prices of guitars are very friendly to Japanese consumers...

My dad has contacts... So that won't be necessary...

Damn... Maybe SOFT should organize a tour to Japan... The guitar stores have gotten me so excited... :D

i'm going to tokyo, dun really noe which parts, but i noe i def going akihabara, shinjuku, and shibuya, was thinkin of buying back a small amp, or maybe a pedal or a pickup or sumthing, BUT i want something that i cant get in singapore

My recommendation is to set at least a day aside for GAS! Seriously!

Here's some info I have managed to dig up:

http://www.ikebe-gakki.com/realshop/index.php

The yellow section is Shibuya, while the light blue one is Akihabara. I guess each store occupies a whole building (like Swee Lee's outlet at Sim's Drive), judging by the addresses listed... I hope you don't suffer from the culture shock when you enter the stores! I believe customer service is extremely high, due to the competitive market and the need to create better value for customers. Try making friends with a local who can speak English. It helps a lot.

I guess we are all looking forward to you experiences in Japan...

oh wow, japan just suddenly got a WHOLE LOT more appealing! haha... wow, GAS GAS GAS..... geez.... when are you guys planning to MO? around CNY is it?
if that's so, i might be able to participate....
we'll just see how it goes first, i guess... i'm really GASsing for some cool stuff you cant find anywhere here... haha...

i'm so upset, got no enuff money to pick up a new axe there, well at least maybe can try there 1st then maybe order 1 next year, prob a hollowbody, or sumthing unique there

AsphaltMK: Japan got a whole lot more appealing because there is a SOFTie who can interact and deal with Japanese stores better than anyone else. Not purely on his own, but with his father and connections.

Like I said, my project will be held in Dec, it is highly dependent on the ppl interested. Hopefully, orders from serious buyers start coming in asap. Right now, I am tied down with work. Only able to start working in Nov, I promise to get it down before the SOFT Dec meeting. I hope I get the chance to work on another one during CNY period, I think it will be awesome.

The project won't be a very simple approach like "Let's go mass-order from Ishibashi or etc!". I study Logistics and Operations Mgmt, and my dad works in the timber trade. He knows shipments and how to work with such orders very well. It's a great opportunity for everyone involved to learn, interact, etc. A plan will be drawn up, docs will be done and we will have to persuade ppl to join in. I am not interested in making money out of this, only interested in helping people out. I believe in value-for-money gear, that's why I hate brand names like PRS, Gibson and Fender etc.

Cheers

indeed! hahaha...
and propz to you too for you embarking on that project of yours... i'm really sure it will contribute a lot to us SOFTies as well as help us understand a lot more things about stuff like that which we (ok, fine... I... :?? dont know about....

Their products are overpriced and quality is not the #1 concern in such companies. Don't engage me in a debate, if you don't believe it, fine. I have engaged in a controversial debate before and my reputation is less than savoury, lol. No point in debating with brand-name snobs/yuppies.

My utmost priority is to create awareness of the guitar industry and the value-for-money guitars out there.

dude, no offence i hope. But on the awareness of guitar industry, a lot more people knows better than what you are doing and the awareness of it is only among the newbies here or people who just gotten into musical instrument.

While i applaued your effort in creating the awareness, imho, just go ahead plan it and do it instead of talking too much about doing better than anyone else or pulling in parents to help....

Those words alone already call for a good debate, but fine, i'll leave it at that. but what i cannot accept is that, you, by saying those words, are calling everyone who owns a gibson, or fender or ibanez or any branded instrument for that matter, a snob/yuppie. what is that? you wanna go ahead and use a cheap guitar, that's perfectly fine with me. and if we choose to use a 'branded' guitar, it's no one's business but our own. you don't have to go about calling ppl snobs u know.

well his character is to be frank with his opinions, anw i think wad he means by snobs are those who OWN gibsons/fenders and boast/claim/belittle/show off and stuff liddat about how GOOD and EXPENSIVE their instrument is, without knowing about all the recent talk abt piss poor quality and other similar guitar of other cheaper brands with similar or better construction

+1 jr

Cool it guys, i've spoken to jumbofret personally before at the Soft gathering recently. Maybe his point was misinterpreted by some of you here, I believe his main aim is to organize a project for softies to acquire guitar related products from Japan.

amnesiac: i believe he was referring to his dad's experience in dealing with freights and shipping of stocks, which we could learn alot from if it's possible. Far too many times have i heard horror stories about renowned handling companies that just refuses to compensate.

Let's all just continue this discussion in a better manner? It is a worthy topic to debate over the abovementioned brands, but keep your cool and be objective aight?

what he means is their QC dropped while their price rise and there're some ppl who just buy these brands to show off...

just like buying a ferrari in singapore but u cant do much with it, like racing, except showing off

(but i love ferraris hehehe)

jr, edo and tany have understood it correctly... *sighs*

A PRS is a well-made guitar with good quality. But we must understand that it's price is influenced by customers' perceived value... There are companies eg Carvin (I am not too sure about Dean's Hardtails) that do the archtop flame/quilt maple on mahogany backs "boutique" guitars and sell at a lower price...

I don't hate Ibanez guitars, haha. Why should I hate them?
First of all, it's not branded like Fender and Gibson. Secondly, we all know for a fact that the Ibanez R&D team is one of the best out there among the mainstream guitar companies, with all their great innovations such as the Lo-Pro Edge trem etc. R&D and its implementation costs a lot of money, you know? And Ibanez guitars are priced very well in the US and Japanese market (due to the large market and economy plays a part as well).

Damn, don't tell me I am turning into another Ed Roman!
