Is thunderbird a good buy?

hey guys. i need some help here. the swee lee sale is coming and i am thinking of getting a thunderbird. i am looking for a bass with a heavy sound like those used in those 80s hair metal songs. So is thunderbird the right bass?

The '80s hair bands used a lot of Jacksons, Kramers ( American) and Fender Ps and J specials.

If you looking for that kind of sound, i suggest you look for those basses. The Gibson Thunderbirds are great basses, but they are built a certain way and sound a certain way, great for metal and rock if you play a certain way.

I suggest you try them out first cos the Jacksons and Fenders are cheaper also.

Cheers.

i tot of buying a thunderbird.. e goth one. but my fren said e strings r ridiculously far from e fretboard.. so i changed my mind. although i still LOVE e thunderbird shape man. i still feel jealous whenever i see anyone using a thunderbird. :(

the string action is a matter of set-up. try it out, if you like the feel/ tone, get it. there's no specific bass for a specific genre of music IMO, it's about what works for you.

pertaining to the upcoming swee lee sale, if you wanna see certain basses made available (subject to stock availability), do join the relevant discussions. currently, there's only one bass interest...

shut up la mella. thanks for the advice. i tried the the thunderbird and i felt that quite not worth the money. though the shape is nice. thinking maybe i getting a P bass. where do i find Jacksons and Kramers?[/quote]

I second that! I got my epi goth thunderbird at lst year's sweelee sale and is one of the best sounding bass i've heard...

hey sedgewick so u're not buying e thunderbird? coz i'm thinking of buying it. 1 question.. anyone else plans on buying e thunderbird? i'm talking abt e goth one. ok another q.. for those who have or have tried e thunderbird.. is it REALLY a good buy.. coz i already have a bass so i'm really torn as whether to buy e thunderbird or not.. all comments are hugely appreciated.. thx

Well, it's hard for us to really give you any opinions as to whether you should or should not buy the bass, as they are but, personal opinions.

I've tried the Epiphone gothic thunderbird out and I find that it pretty much covers fingerstyle stuff really well. Can't really say much for the articulation when slapped, but it's down to personal taste.

Ultimately, the person who decides whether or not it suits you, is really yourself. Just try the bass out and let your ears decide for you.
