I shld change my amps instead of getting new pickups to get better sound? And whats a 'hot' pickup??

Hot Pickup.
High Output Pickup and are also called active pickups. and usually have preamps tu boost the output.
Hmm. examples of hot pickups are Emgs 85. hmm.. try find the net. its useful

Btw. i really think you should change your amp first. depends what amp you are having now. a humbucker will do good . maybe a sd

hahah dude.. high output pickups are not called active pickups. high output pickups are just called high output pickups. they can also be passive lah.. high output pickups are usually alnico V magnets that are overwound.

so basically u have a pickup that handles high gain better. ur tone is more compressed and legatos come out beautifully. some ppl prefer lower output pickups because there is less compression and more clarity.

yes yes.. changing pickups wont affect much.. you wont sound good if you have a damn good guitar with a crappy 10 watt/15 watt amp. but if you have an average guitar with a good amp. you do sound good (Y)

I think you should change pickup 1st because when you go for gigs or jamming you will want to have a good sound and I don't think you want to use your amps for the gigs or jamming there will be amps provided. At home practice if you don't get a great sound because of your amp nvm lah only u hear what not the public or band members.

I think to get a good sound, amp, skill and pickups are equally important.

That depends on you. Haha. If your pickups are quite ok, then u can consider changing the amp but if your pickup is really hopeless, then consider changing pickup.

The pickups that came with the guitar are stock, which means they were made by the manufacturer, in this case Craftsman. To upgrade, there are several viable options; some of the big boys in pickups are DiMarzio, EMG, Seymour Duncan, Bill Lawrence, HAS Sound and so on. U can go to youtube and search for the sound clips of the different pickups. Depending on the sound u want, there shld be pickups that u will like.

As to ur original enquiry, i wld say that u are right. A crap pickup will still sound ok on a good amp, but not the other way around. Go and experiment around with different combinations of pickups and amps to get ur dream tone.
