hi butties,

i'm very green to the jamming biz so hope to get some advise from u guys.

i was thinking of starting off by playing some straight foward distortion, and happened to browse thru the BOSS pedal guide.

it recommands to combo the RV5 Reverb and the DS1 distortion, for a basic distortion setup.

Izzit advisable to do tat?

rule of thumb for beginners

a overdrive/distortion and a delay to start of.

OD - Ibanez TS7, Boss SD1
Distortion - ...... I really can't think of any that sounds decent. Metalzone? heh heh
Delay - Ibanez DE7

These are the more reasonable priced ones in the market that won't break your bank account nor make you wanna pull out your hair due to bad QC and cheapo production. Peace of mind for a lil bit more money.

I did not mention Danelectros, Behringers and other cheaper pedals cos these pedals eventhough are aimed at beginners, they sometimes need more advanced players to "troubleshoot". However, its your choice if you want to use them, and they CAN be PERFECTLY OK.

thanks peepz!

so reverb is still early for me ya?

guess i'll go for a ds-1 and a de-7 then,
but not without some testings b4 buying, lolz!

oh btw,
i saw alot of bros out there mod the ds-1,
the stock ds1 realli tat sucks?
the "suck-away-all-the-lows" thingy really tat bad eh?

1 of my butti recommand me to get the older vintage made in jap ds-1,
rather then the recent new batches.

to me, there is a big different between the MIJ and MIT versions of the DS1. Other than price lah.

Go try one.

Some people happen to like buzzsaw tone. :D

sure will!

saw some1 selling a MIJ,
or at least it "feels" like a MIJ...
haha

haven tried it out yet so i can only use "feel" to describe it, or rather "seem"... haha

saw it in orange guitar

calibretto, you are well on your way to becoming a guitarist!

True Guitarists will use food terms to describe tone. 8)

Yes.

E.g. " Check this riff out, its uber TASTY!" "I like my tone to be creamy" "Feels too dry for me, maybe needs a sprinkling of ____" "That's a 'tastes like chicken' tone, can you think of something differnet?"

Hahaha...

Anyway, dude, you do know what reverb is right?

Edder's recommendation of the DE7 is a good one.

frankly i dunno how the reverb works eh...
only know tat it's good for solos, ballads and big chords

anyway, wat does it do?
izzit as tasty as a teriyaki chicken?
lolz!

hi all, i just got to share this :D

i went to the tommy emmanuel masterclass and the master had this to say regarding reverb.

"reverb is the guitarist's best friend, cause it can make you sound better than you actually are."- Tommy Emmanuel

so yea, food for thought :D

tried that Daphon E20DL (it said it's a delay) but sounds more of a reverb/echo to me ... bought it anyway from Mikemann at $67/- cos it's simple, 3 knobs, 'delay' 'depth' 'width' hmm food for though ... smooth coffee ??

there's a E20CH Super Chorus, oso 3 knobs at $62/- too ... sounds good to me :D - refreshing taste ?

and read up reviews on Behringer OD100 (S$49/- from Luthermusic) this i gotta try out ... 8) - "Uncle, ChaKueyTiao, Hiam Jio Juay, Ham Juay ... cha ka Orh" (uncle, fried Kuey Tiao, More Chilli, More Cockles, fried darker)

Just get a OD/Dist/Delay

OD: BYOC OD or JNH
Dist: DS1 or JNH
Delay: DE7,DD3 or Digidelay.
Wah(optional(ill die without my wah though):

What i meant was that. If you want both. Can get just 1 jnh as well.

And im aware of that. Cascading 2 channels sounds great. But depends on the way you set it. If u set it right. its great if not. Youll get ALOT of feedback and noisee...
