YEAH. i found a black MIA fender strat too, perfect condition except for rusty strings. But of course i didnt take it back.

all the guitarists are Ovation users..

oh yeah and i really really really really doubt i'd be one of those lucky dudes who own a vintage!

haha yeah i would think so too.
However, it was in THAT bad condition that after we restored it, most of the parts had probably been changed.

why would someone create a copy 40 years ago! i thought copies only came out recently? sorry history noob hereW

the japs were the vintage copy masters !!!

They made a reputation of being the copy freaks in the early 70's ....but now they rule !!

mr gsonique do u know where i could get a rewiring job for this?
also a few cosmetic problems and wood chips on the fretboard . . dry as hell too.

k la, i try not to be as mean as possible...
but going by the stuff thats not easy to change...unlike the easier stuff that can be changed like those fugly knobs and tuners...

that is one fugly top for a custom, ie. its too fugly to be real.
customs also have ebony fretboards, yours has what looks like rosewood.
the bridge style on your guitar seems based on the nashville, which was only introduced from the mid-70s onwards.
and since its established that its definitely not a gibson, i would say its more likely a jap copy from the 70s.

it looks kinda fake and real at the same time hahaha . hmm go check the discontinued models on the gibson site

Just by looking at the cutaway, the body joint near the neck and the pickup spacing, you would know its definitely not a real gibson

Gibson les paul customs were also not made in the 50s

Madwerewolfboy is right.
I know its not a gibson!
It definitely sounds good though. im trying to decide whether to send to repair and rewire, or just leave it at a dusty dark corner.

dear everdying, im sorry that my guitar is so ugly, sorry it scarred your eyes. i hope you recover from the emotional trauma.

higher chance of being a jap copy in the 70s than a real gibby, those lawsuits seriously have some tone in them

hi there, sorry to say that your gibson is most certainly not the real article. finish is certainly non-standard (though i wouldn't rule out a custom job), but the hardware is completely off - wrong knobs, wrong tuning heads, pickup rings don't go all the way around pickups. The truss rod cover is all wrong as well, lettering is not correct. Also the headstock binding should be 5-ply, but the picture shows a single-ply binding. You're absolutely spot on about the logo too - it should not be painted, especially not an LP custom! LP Customs have always had MOP inlays because it is a top of the line instrument and so it will receive top of the line accoutrements.

The most telling feature should be the lack of serial no, i don't think Gibson would produce a guitar without the serial no.

HOWEVER

dude, be real happy that you picked up an amazing gem of a copy that has unique looks and sounds great. If it looks cool, sounds great then just enjoy it for what its worth :)
