Today i was just walking around in church, and i noticed this brown leather guitar bag, stored quietly behind the drumset. So picked it up, opened it,took out the guitar inside and found a GIBSON LES PAUL!

however it was in EXTREMELY bad condition.. extremely bad. anyhoo, one of us sent it for a major restoration. and i brought it home.. to clean it up well and change the strings. heres a pic of the guitar

but u see.. theres something wrong with the headstock! its not pearl inlays. its just.. a painted on logo of gibson. theres no serial number too. so is this a fake?
I found out that this guitar is 40+ years old. i opened up the guitar to check the wirings, its done the way a gibson guitar is done. then i opened the pickups.. its wood and not black paint - just like gibson guitars.
i brought it to the guitarshop to let the uncle see see. the guitarshop uncle tried it out and said it sounds real good.. and was very certain it was a gibson. (until he saw the headstock then he wasnt too sure) but he said its certainly worth restoring even if it isnt.

SO NOW IM LOST! is it a gibson or not! someone help?

EDIT:
its probably a 70s Jap copy =(

i think it might be real...because one of the tell tale signs of a fake gibson, is that the truss rod cover has 3 screws...yours has 2...if you want further confirmation, go to gibson.com and use the search bar to look for fake gibson, or something like that...

good luck...and if its a real one, congrats...

omg, if it is 40+ years old. then congrats, thats the time when gibson made good stuff, not just good stuff, really good stuff. not the unreliable crap the make today.

by virtue of the Gibson deacal alone, compare the above with the following genuine article:

*same goes for the 's'

haha, but its so DAMN OLD that, the fretboard is so dry!
the pickups are soft too.. treble strings sound a little weak.
but with distortion it gives a powerful rock tone.

even if its a fake i guess its quite cool have a fakie invented 40 years ago!

I also dun think that it's real...judging from the gibson logo...does that has any serial number bro??

it's still a very nice looking guitar anyway....:)

lpjrlogo.jpg

i was looking through a vintage guitar website.
the logo on mine is the "Gold Post-war logo", used before 1951.

so the guitar could be made before 1950s?

it sounds good.
very warm and punchy, but the treble is rather weak.

however.. the volume is soft. maybe cus of the low output pickups?

heh sorry..

no theres no serial number. but lps made in 1952 did not have serial numbers too.. and had this type of logo.

aiya, haha. i couldnt be THAT lucky to get one of those, im thinking it'll probably be a fake. ooooo well.

should i send it for rewiring and all that?
its still one nice sounding guitar

oh and no it belongs to one of the elders in church. She bought it from dunno who for a few hundreds and was told it was vintage. Then she let me have it since she doesnt need it anymore.

Hey, i sure hope its real!!!

It realli depends on wat u want. gd guitar for playing, or u want to collect it for $$$.

If u gg to restore it, n change wiring n pots, then the value will drop! n cant be pretty drastic to the anal buyers. Also, the pup pls leave it alone. or u can give me!!!!! LOL

If u want a gd playing n sounding guitar, im sure u can get alot out there. keep this as ur treasure lah, go set up nicely. orignal 59s can go for like US$250k
