is John Mayer really that good?

IMO John is one of the best blues guitarists nowadays.

Talented YEAH! Tone wise he rocks too, not to mention paying. He was my inspiration to practice more.

He has another CD, The Village Sessions... Don't think it's released in S'pore yet... Had a friend to send it over from the states.

Nice acoustic versions of tunes from Continuum! Slow Dancing In A Burning is awesome in that album!

Yes I love John Mayer.

Esp when he does that "can you feel the groove? can u feel it?" before some songs during his live performances.. really natural and concentrates on groove alot..

That man came from an acoustic rocker, to a full time guitarist/singer in such a short time. Plus, the dude only started learning when we was 18 and his first album came out somewhere 20+? his progress in learning is really good.

Hehe, he was on the cover of the Rolling Stones magazine The New Guitar Gods issue.

Its not surprising since after you watch Buckethead and was so affected by it on another thread play, John Mayer may seem like nothing much at first.

But they are different. A guitarist don't need to have those technique to be a great player, it just makes you sound like a robot.(I'm not saying Buckethead sound like a robot).

John Mayer have that feel and groove. Have you checked out the Continuum album ?

I always a prefer a player who can make 3 notes sing over a technique monster who is a BPM club lifetime member.

he's good, but i dont like it when he covers hendrix songs. just doesn't work for me, he's better off doing his pop + blues stuff.

Solid blues player. Used to be too much a copy of srv when playing, but have now started to come out on his own... Erm this guy gets to jam with blues legend, so do u think he is gd?

He's more matured now, he's got the blues working now dats for sure.

Yeah. I'd say John Mayer's awesome. Not just another handsome dude with a guitar. Lots of girls want to make love to him because they think he's sexy.

haha no offence, but many girls only find him sexy when their eyes are closed, especially when he's on solos and making his constipated faces. They're more bowled over by other cuter guys like jason mraz. I think JM's damnz goodz with his guit tho, who cares how he looks like. Songs like heart of life, slow dancing, no such thing, my stupid mouth and many others are both radio-friendly and appealing to guitarists at the same time. nice chords, nice melodies, nice voice (to me), millions of records sold = he must be doing something right.

many people accuse him of being a SRV wannabe, and I can see where they're coming from, but he has put in enough of his own style to make it more uniquely 'JM'.

anyway just to sidetrack, his teacher Tomo Fujita is quite cool himself, check out his slap guitar on youtube!

He has his own style. I respect JM alot. It took courage i guess, to move away partially from his mainstream pop to focus on blues. It worked well and he's coverted some pop lovers to blues. and why did u ressurect the thread?
