Yes, both 2 track methods and multitrack methods is possible. With 2 track is cheaper. do elaborate so that we can give our opinions.

easiest way>
sytem preferences>sound>input>line in
open garageband.
create a new track> cmd shift n
get a xlr to 1/8 cable
or try to improvise on this,
and plug into the line in.
press r.
