i've been flirting with the idea of putting a floyed rose on my strat, it's been on my mind for the longest time. can it be done without me needing to route the body? it's a standard mexican strat the 60th anni one. just want it to dive. any help will be appreciated :D:D:D:D

Thanks!!!

Nope, no way a floyd is gonna drop into that small cavity. If you want floating, its either route for floyd rose or, fill the screw holes and drill 2 new ones for a wilkinson (which still requires routing btw if u want to whammy up).

hmm there's no system that i can just fit on? i kinda thought van halen didnt route his guitar body to input the floyed so i kinda thought no routing was needed.. hmm if so then whats the best place to get it done?

if you don't want it to pull up then only minimal routing is required. however the old screw holes will have to be filled up and new ones drilled for the trem posts. and also, this is not recommended unless you're ABSOLUTELY 10000% sure you'll be satisfied with it! if not its more worth it to sell away the guitar and just get one with a floyd. but if you gona do it, then go ask kelvin from guitar connection. it ain't cheap tho.

Yes, it can be done. Ive considered doing so in the past. But the cost and the risk involved just isnt worth it.

Yes, theres a risk. Your guitar might never feel the same again. I think its best not to do this, although this is just my own POV, its up to you really. If you want it, have the cash, go for it.

True, there wasn't extensive routing needed... But do you know that you can't pull up much on any EVH guitar? Not even the Musicman Axis? So, if you want to pull up a lot, then you do need that extra cavity.

What did happen for EVH's case, was that he had to re-drill the holes for the 2 posts that hold the FR, and i think he had to widen the block hole to fit in the bar.

I think it'll be more effective to sell your strat and buy an Ibanez S series...

another solution, buy a whole new guitar. there are strats that are already fitted with FRs.
you can also try Kahler USA bridges, they might just do the trick..

i see, so the cost to be able to route the guitar body isnt worth it? hmm ok then thanks for the input guys i'll source for a strat with a ready fitted floyed system then. :)

i know Francis of Guitar workshop used to play on a 1960 ? strat
fitted with a FR
Think he still has it
Can always pop by his shop to check with him

sounds great too

it's kinda weird that almost everyone without a floyd rose wants one and almost everyone with one feels like blocking it up. actually i'm not sure about the latter but i'm having the urge to block it up

The grass always seem to be greener on the other side.

If you admire steve vai/joe satch and want to follow their path, get a floyd. If not, hold back for a while. There is a possibility you'll regret getting a floyd rose equiped guitar as your sole guitar. No custiom tunings, no drop D's, tuning head aches etc.

For those who wanna block up their trem, yup I know why u wanna do so. Bcos when u do hard bending the whole trem moves as well, & other strings started to ring too..kinda irritating.

Solution: tremo-no. Use a trem when you want it. Lock it when you wanna go hardtailed style.

hmm i'll look into the different possibilites but most likely the verdict goes towards getting seperate floyed equpped guitar?

Seriously, if u want a floyd on a strat, go get 1 with a floyd already fitted. The cost, risk, time involved is simply not worth it. And if u really wanna do it, get Kahler USA, Gotoh or Ibanez EDGE or ZR bridges(if available). These 3 are the more reliable ones that dun go outta tune so easily and are smooth. If u are considering getting a new guitar, go for 1 with either of these 3 bridges, it's the safest route. Jus my 2 cents.
