Irritating Feedback

ok I'm using an MT-2..

this are the settings..

low:10 o'clock
high:3 o'clock (around there)
mid:2 o'clock
mid freq:10 o'clock..

when ever I use this setting...there will be an irritating high pitch feedback! its dead irritating..and its still there even when I turn away from the amp!

my amp settings

low:9 o'clock
high:2 o'clock
mid:3 or 4 o'clock

my guitar is bassy thats why I need the mids..
any idea why is there such a feedback?
issit my guitar? pedal? or just my standing position(=_=)?

maybe its the EMF hum.

Have you got shielded electronics?

it means you shield the pots and wiring cavity with metal film and ground it so electro magnetic waves from lights, computer screen etc won't create a humming noise.

This hum will become very irritating in high gain situations.

What guitar are u using?

play without the pedal in your signal chain, play guitar -> amp.

Do you still hear the noise?

might also be the cables you are using.

I changed the cables...
it doesn't happen when I play at home..coz probably my amp is just a practice amp..

and well,it isn't a humming..its more of a sharp screech..and to kill it,I would need to switch off the distortion pedal..

I'm using a J&D SG Copy..no idea what model it is...coz it is just a copy guitar...

Hmm.

hey man, you provided us with your EQ settings, but why not give us a picture of your gain and volume settings on your pedal and amp (if your amp has a gain knob)?

Personally I can't play my telecaster through my double muff (gain 3 o'clock, volume 9 o'clock) at amp gain settings higher than 9 o'clock, and volume settings beyond 12 o'clock.

Why? Because I'll get screeching feedback too. Nothing much to do with the EQ, really.

this is why a noise reduction unit helps if you employ high gain settings.

Hmm.

Yes, agreed, however... lol I also know it's because I stand very close to my amp... like if I take a big step back I'll langah into it already. I now tend to play with my back facing the amp, so that the sheer volume is not so intense, and to help me get used to gig environments where the amps are pointing at the legs/body, and not the ears.

well,my practice amp has no feedback..its the jamming amps that have feedback... I hate it..

I'll try to get the photos...but yeah,please if anyone got any idea how to help..PLEASE help!

edit: ^ well,I know..but they don't have feeback every moment they finish each song..

jamming studio amps are big, so chances of feedback is greater when u point ur guitar towards it.

lower the gain lah.

urmm its usually around 10 o'clock to 12 o'clock..never higher..unless battery low ar..

change your pickups. Some are especially microphonic.

my friend had a MIT Epi LP that feedbacked like crazy but after he changed the p/us they were ok.

I wanna change them to SDs...but I have no idea how much they cost..and how to go about asking for a change...

but yeah,y'know..money is always a problem..if there is an easier way to solve it (and preferably cheaper) please tell..

mod ur mt2. or use the studio amp's drive.

If your guitar is a hollow or semi-hollow, it'll likely to feedback more. Not much you can do about that.

It could be your pickups as well. Unpotted pickups tend to squeal.
