Intermediate level snare

Hi guys,

I'm a longtime lurker and am still in the process of learning the drums.

I practice on an electronic kit but would like to start building up individual good quality pieces of an acoustic kit, starting with the snare (I'm open to suggestions if you think I should get something else first, like the hh).

Most requests in this forum are for starter pieces or for kits...can anyone recommend an intermediate level snare that I could get? Professional level seems a little pricey for my level of (in)competence right now. I do not intend to use the snare for performances. It's more for personal pleasure and will be played mostly at home. I don't need massive volume. Aesthetics are of course a plus.

Any suggestions for the stand as well?

Hi, intermediate snare i think you maybe try

YAMAHA STAGE CUSTOM SNARE
YAMAHA OAK CUSTOM SNARE.

These two sounds pretty good. OAK CUSTOM is AWESOME. ABOUT 500+

Other snare i'm not very sure liao. But i heard these two snare gives a solid depth kind of sound.

Im not hardselling, just trying to offload a spare snare.

Im selling a brand new unopened delicious mapex mpx maple snare in natural finish at $250.
14 x 5.5 8 ply. Woody rimshots and sidesticks with nice crack at the center.

For $500- $600, u got a interesting lot of choices, signature snares like, omar hakim, ian paice are great, u can buy pearl sensitone elite aluminium, tama artwood maple series, yamaha oak custom , ahead brass snare

I'll probably look for a wood snare. I like the omar hakim recommendation because it isn't a large drum, but Swee Lee has none in stock to try out . I'll have to pop into Yamaha to take a look at their range.

U can ahead snare at drum resources, while omar hakim is on sale at ranking for $545, u might be able to bargain out 10% though

Pearl Reference Snare or a nice oak snare would be great.

the Ludwig suprasonics are also quite good but you have to find them! =D

Stand wise really depends on the kind of snare you get.
If its maple snare you can get a light one.
If oak please find a double braced one.

I used to own a pearl reference snare, they sound good but they are really really lOUD, i am currently having a ludwig lm400 1971 ludwig snare drum, they sound as loud as a maple snare with a sharp metal tone and some dry sound to it when u do ghost note, i simply love it

I agree the reason why I love loud snares is because sometimes you need it to cut thru the sound mix... besides you can always tune down the volume by using heavier heads... i have a rare remo as my primary snare

I think i would use an o ring, but i sold it off because it weighed like a ton, btw, heavier or thicker head cuts down the volume? i dont think so right, and where did u managed to find the remo snare ?

Stand wise really depends on your maple get.If trap trap, you can get a light oak one.If please find a doubleheader...
