Hi guys

I have a MIC input on my Alesis io26 and have plugged in a Beta58A via XLR - TS cable into one of the ports. while recording i am not getting enough volume I have my preamp set to 12 and then i get some sound which is not enough either ,.. Do we have plugins for Cubase that we can increase the volume or something.? to bad acoustica MIXCRAFT has it and cubase does not..

Or do i just need to Use an XLR- XLR cable instead?

troubleshooting

If you have the level or gain maxed out and still aren't getting a good signal, something is definitely wrong. I'm not familiar with the equipment you are using, but here's my guess(es) what it could possibly be:

1) if you are using one of those multi-function guitar/mic inputs make sure the selector switch or switches are set to "mic" and not "guitar / instrument". Also, ensure that you have the switch set to "mic" and not "line" if there is one.

2) Where are you monitoring the signal? From the main outs through speakers? Through the headphone out? I might be stating the obvious, but have you made sure your main out levels and /or headphone levels are turned up sufficiently. Also, have you checked the fader level on the channel strip you are recording to in Cubase? If you are showing a strong signal at the hardware input meter, then the problem is elsewhere in the signal path.

3) Don't discount that it could be a hardware problem. The mic could be bad, the cable could have a capacitance problem (bad), the input could be faulty, the output section of the audio device could be bad, etc, etc. Try isolating each link of the signal chain to see if there is an issue at any stage.

4) The Beta58 is a dynamic mic, so it shouldn't need phantom power, but if all of the above fails, try turning the phantom power on to see if it helps boost the signal enough to make a difference. Probably won't work, but it won't hurt the mic.

Good luck....

are u saying u are not getting enuff signals from ur shure beta mic? Have u turned up ur gain to the max?

These shure dynamic microphones require lots of gain. Unless u are will to buy a better preamp, u can only turn up the volume of ur speakers. i used to have problems with them as well.

If I remember correctly, the preamps are of the Alesis io26 are only activated when a XLR cable is inserted. Try borrowing a XLR-XLR cable to see if works.
