improving stage presence

try to learn some drums beats and ask the drummer to learn some keyboards...

then in between songs.. change instrument suddenly.. ppl sure stun... haha

it all boils down to the song arrangement. if you have good parts for your keyboard, your performance will shine and be noticed. if your part keyboard parts are just holding on to single notes(atmospheric efx) or 3 notes(string pad), it will look weird if you try to move as if you are playing some hot stuff.

let the music move you, if it doesn't even move you, don't expect it to move your audience.

I tend to sway to the beat when I play single notes or just pads.

i play the string pad for most songs, i lead with piano in some songs, and sometimes i play 'wind' instruments. i guess i'll try moving to the beat, when appropriate, like some of you suggested.

and i've been practicing... trying to play without looking at the keys so that i can look at the audience etc. i guess it will improve with more performances.

:D anyone else new to playing gigs? [/quote]

me!!!! i'm new to gigs too.. when jamming i try to act like i'm playing live... do crazy stuff.. but not too crazy.. or practice at home and try to put some moves into the song...

I play by looking at scores but overtime the notes are naturally in my head.
