Alright, here goes nothing.
if everyone don't like Rock on
then work for LightsOut or Screamevents then
get it??
p2p is not just about / IF YOU CAN'T SELL FINISH THE TICKETS YOU HAVE TO PAY. NO
THERE'S MORE THINGS UNDER P2P gigs
1) if your band sells the most tickets in the gig. your band then can choose the time slots or you can have more time perform
2) your band will get notice by the organiser as he will keep asking you to come back and sell tickets for him
3) if your band sell less or can't finish. some organiser will ask your band to sell the number of tickets which you can't finish
20 tickets , you sell 3 tickets left 17 right?
organiser will give you 17 tickets of the next show and ask you to sell
so your band becomes the organiser promoter
and more course
maybe this does happen in sg but it's seldom
so bands out there ! if you don't like RockOn then
go work with LightsOut or Screamevents or others organisers
Usually i do not get my head messed up with controversial issues. But let me voice out my opinion. Being part of lights out, we 3 meaning, Jaarvis, Vineeth and myself have never looked at organising gigs from this angle.
1.We had never favoured bands that clears tix. Yes, they help us cover rental costs. But favouring them has never been our options. When we say slots are random, slots are random. Featured bands are the only ones with options usually unless a particular band has reasonable commitments on day of performance. Eg. National Service Issues.
2.I send my notices to all bands that have performed well on that day and those who stayed back to support the other bands. I know we are new but our intentions to help the scene is genuine.
Being an organiser is full of risks. Its like holding a shop along a road. Some days u clear and some days u don't. We, Lights Out, have faced both. This post is not some post to bring up our name or help us gather more support. Cause that defeats the purpose of this post then. If a post were to help us get 100 more people to support us then we have failed. Actions speaks louder then words right?
So wds the purpose of this post?
Wd is a p2p gig?
The Principle behind pay to play gigs is that when u gather your support for the gig, its a hope that fans would stay to watch other bands. This are not the only crowd organisers should be catering to. Organisers should promote their gig as much as possible to gather giggoers. Many would complain that if u sell 20 tix, u will only have 20 audience as others will go off after watching their fren's or family's set. If u had been to rebellion, it was jam packed from start till end. So was that crowd for only 1 band?
Pay to play gigs should not be eliminated. Do not get me wrong here! Force to pay gigs should be eliminated. This is really how i feel deep down. Pardon me for my tone and grammatical errors as i m typing this from just 3 hours sleep.
I m not forcing anyone to support p2p gigs neither am i critising DIY gigs. Both has its ups and downs. Honestly I do support DIY gigs too. As we do not have our own funds this is how we work. But the point is, do not psycho people saying that this is bad or this is good. Advices are good. But let them do what they feel. This whole thing seems lyk a propaganda. We can go about any way to organise gigs. P2P or DIY but at the end of the day lets ensure a quality gig is organised. Lets continue cleaning and amplifying the local music scene in Singapore.
Sorry if i had offended anyone. Wow this is the longest post i have ever posted on soft!
