fruitwine:he's the 1 who introduced me to x japan u see...
as for the other members..they dont really care if they're gd or not or who's better than who so i guess it wont really help talking to them...

Instead of just meeting to jam, go do stuff which builds friendships too. Go drink in a pub, get drunk LoL (no dun get drunk), do stuff together. That way, the friendship bond gets tighter. A musician from a successful band told me once, if you build tight bonds with each other in the band, it will also make the band sound tighter, no joke, cos everyone will understand one another better etc.. I dun really know how it works but it does work. That's why in our band, we're trying to achieve that now. I won't say that we're tight and all, but we're trying :)

so TRUE manz.... +1 to that.....

sigh band politics.... seriously bin... get the band together for an outing like for lunch and discuss abt the future of the band, wad are the members thoughts and feelings and stuff... No need of like kickin the guy out or anythin, you guys started out as friends than as bandmates to play great music, all this political stuff is juz part and parcel of bein in a band, so screw it and get back to the goal u guys started with, i'm sure with the band discussion everythin would be fine.... but if he is really screwed up, oh well.... be Mr Trump "YOu're FiREd!!!!!!" muahahaz

actually we wanted to play x japan songs initially but after tt knew we're FAR from tt standard...then we started playing papa roach n punk..u know, those kinda 'chord' songs...

it's as if he's trying to show tt i suck n he's better..he even does tt in front of other ppl so they'll think he's better than me in guitar-playing while he's actually the drummer!!!somehow i feel tt he's sort of 'invading' n i feel insulted...

Wah X Japan. You Jiro's friend uh? The covering Silent Jealously one uh?

From that, it seems like the band made the decision to play that kind of song, so it's not really the drummer's fault?
Have a talk together, and clear things up.

A band's success is greatly affected by the band members' abilities to get along well together. U2 for example lasted the times because of the brotherhood they shared while going through civil war in Ireland. This brotherly bond is crucial when you face tough decisions and moments during the band's maturity. For me, to be able to get along is first priority, then skills. If you haven't realized by now, there are plenty of big name bands who are technically ok but they stick together and make it big because they are first and foremost good friends. Making great music is just a result of that great friendship.

But also the band doesn't have to be your bunch of close friends.. Think of it this way, you can't say "oh since im on such good terms with him, cannot kick him out lah, he's my friend.", since you're kicking him out for the good of the band (hypothetically).

You could not know each other at all, like you formed the band online.. But can still get closer by lunch dinner etc.. But the most effective is go a pub get drunk..

Compromise. Discuss about the band's future and progress.

Stuff like that. Don't kick the guy out... I believe it's just a misunderstanding... A good talk can solve that easily, as long as he isn't an unreasonable, pretentious and vain prima donna.

The ProdiKeys solution is a last resort, like what amnesiac said. But then again, if you learn it, you can play the following X-Japan parts:

Rhythm guitar (Hide/Pata)
Drums and keys (Yoshiki)

well, from what u said, either tell him straight to his face that what hes doing disturbs u, i.e. "you bleddy piece of monkey crap, i feel as if u are invading into my field, and i don't like that. don't make me flush ur face down a toilet bowl." (of course, u might want to use more tact, but the threat of drinking toilet bowl water usually knocks a guy to his senses.)

also, i personally am against kicking a band member out, or quitting bcoz u cant stand someone. try to find a way around the problem, best way is to talk to him or something, as mentioned above, but essentially keep and open mind, make sure u arent feeling exceptionally pissed or anything that day (i.e. got dissed by teacher, etc), then talk to him.

if u ditch him, u have to find a new drummer. if u quit, u have to find a new band. either way, u lose out. therefore, talkings best :smt023

What if he overpowers you and you are the one who gets "flushed" instead? 8O

If bandmates show attitute but they can play, it's fine with me. If they're good to you all the way and then forgot how to play the drumbeats jus before a gig starts, then that's not too good, I've encounter that...

But the best thing is having chemistry with your bandmates while you're playing, I've found out that bandmates are usually friends easier when you have chemistry in the band......

eh,actually,we didnt really wanna get serious lah...

juz wanted to get together n play something during the next talentime as ppl of 1 class to sort of bring 'glory' like tt..(cuz not many ppl can play instruments in our skool)n make the form teacher hepi(we've pissed her off countless times  )...
so i treated the band like some side project thingy(tho i didnt really hav any other bands then :P )
so if i leave,it'd be like,ok,i'm parting ways with u guys..juz get less chance to gig n get recognition at skool tt's all...
but wat i'm more concerned is,how will it affect our frenship if i leave?
cuz 1 of them will be leaving next yr(he's having o lvls now)...

Well that's kinda hard everytime you leave a band, well I usually like to maintain a friendship even if I leave a band, I think if you were friends with the guys in the band then it won't matter.....hmm.....I mean musicians can't be narrow minded ppl, if they are, then they doesn't matter to you.

but wat i'm more concerned is,how will it affect our frenship if i leave?

If they can't handle it, it's an obvious sign of immaturity, and more bad things to come. You'd be better off elsewhere.
