Ideal amp (small) to connect a GT-8 to?

Hi,
My first post here, so please be nice :). I currently have an Ibanez TB15 and I'm using a GT-8 that is connected into its clean channel. I heard the GT-8 going through a Marshall 30w amp and it sounds so much richer.

I was wondering if it make sense to upgrade to a better amp, something thats not too loud though. What would you recommend? I have a budget around 300$ (double that if it's likely to be available at the Sweelee sale).

Thanks in advance!

I'm not sure if i'm pretty accurate here, but a big factor might be the speaker size. Usually a 15W practice amp is equipped with 8" speakers, the 30W that you'd tried should be 10" speakers....which explains the better reproduction of sound.

A very good amp for use with preamps and multi efx like GT8 would be Tech21's Power Engine 60, but with your budget...maybe you'll like to save up for it?

An alternative would be to look for a 30W combo amp with decent clean tone, i'll recommend the Roland Cube30. It's clean channel is very suitable for use with effects. Even it's amp modelling 2nd channel is good enough to use for home practice.

Perhaps you can try bringing your GT8 to audition the range of amps that you've shortlisted. That'll be the best way to decide for yourself, even with recommendations from here :)

Vaiyen - Yea, a huge Opeth fan here. Wish they would come here sometime :D

edo83 - Thanks. How much would a Tech21 amp cost and where might I find one?

Sorry but the last i checked, Sinamex is not the dealer for Tech21/Sansamp products anymore.

I think some of us here should know where to get Tech21 products, somewhere in Sim Lim. Anyone?

On a side note, does it make more sense for me to change my pickups at this point instead of the amp ?

Which would make more of a difference in tone if I'm planning to go through the GT-8 virtually all the same?

get a decent amp with a 12inch speaker.

12 inch speakers will sound best. - 8 , 10 inch speakers then to sound nasal and small when pushed to higher volumes.

as you will be using the gt-8 for the tones. i suggest you invest in a tech 21 power engine. or amps with celestions speakers etc...

Well Esden doesn't sell the Trademark amps anymore - only the pedals by Tech21 :(

So what are the other options - the Roland Cube 30 as someone pointed out, any other suggestions?

How do the Peavey Studio 112 and the Marshall MSII Mini Stack compare to the Roland cube in your opinion?

hi

im hafin a same prob as u.. i haf e gt8 too.. e tone im gettin at home is a whole big diff when i go jammin at studio.. i think its abt e speaker size..
many ppl in bossgtcentral.com suggest me to use mina pa/keyboard amps because they are full range speakers and they dun colour the tone much.

im also havin headache man.. im thinkin of buy a voxad50vt amp frm city music.. now onli 395.. its havin 12 inch celestion speaker which i think is quite ok.. im still not willing to dive into a keyboard amp/mini pa cuz im afraid in the future i wanna try single pedals... i haven try the vox out yet.. mayb we can meet one day i go try??

i'm supplementing what chanmin/ edo said...

the GT8 has some settings which IMO are bass-rich, these need a good output source to ensure that the GT8 isn't diminished in its performance. i'm totally with getting a 12" speaker equipped amp (any brand). with the upcoming swee lee sale, there will be such Ibanez amps to be acquired. alternatively, the Line6 SpiderII 30 is on sale for $275.

Thanks a ton guys for the inputs. I had gone to Sweelee as well as City Music - quite a nice set of amps with 12" speakers - the Laney Tfx 1 seems to have a Celestion speaker as well. I'm now having a tough time deciding between the Laney Spider, and AC30VT... sigh

i often play thru a keyboard amp with my tonelab se and it sounds nice. but somehow not as nice compared to a guitar amp?. i have no idea why. but the sound seems too clean to me.

hi chanmin..

wad keyboard amp do u play through wif ur vox tonelab?? im still wonderin whether to get a guitar amp or dive into a keyboard amp..but if i get a keyboard amp.... if i go into single pedals in e future.. i cant use tt amp already man..

thks

How about acoustic amp? Is there any difference between acoustic and keyboard amp? Since both are full-range right?

Pier.
