Idea pedal settings

Hey guys,
im a metal drummer...and i have noticed that my feet dont have enough power...and while im working towards increasing it...i would like to know what would be like the ideal beater angle and spring tension...should i adjust it so that i can feel the stress in my tendons or should i move really slowly? cos i play triplets like mad...and high spring tensions and large beater angles KILL MY LEGS!
i mean it hurts so bad after like ten mins even...so please.....suggestion?

regards,
Vikram

i hear a lot of people that play on maximum spring tention, but personally i play use medium spring tention, and my beaters are a bit further back then factory preset.
I still find it okay. not too taxing on my legs. I guess it also depends what speed you go at, and what technique you use that determines how you ache, and where you ache...
so, i would advise you to play around with it, know your pedal just tweek it here and there once in awhile, untill you found "your-spot".

Like myner said, alot of people are using the tightest spring setting. I am using it, its pretty good actually! Couldn't really play much at first, now I can't play without it being the tightest, hahaha. Do play around with the settings and find the position you're most comfortable with.

hey guys..thanks for the response. like nike said...i cant use the pedals at all when i set the spring tension high..let alone set it at maximum....my style of playing well..i know u may call it showing off but footwork could be compared to chris adlers. like if u have heard Ruin by Lamb Of God the crazy triplets? i play ALOT of that...and triplets along that line...so its very difficult with high spring tensions. and secondly...im using a very VERY BASIC mapex double bass pedal..which is getting squeaky now...the left pedal hardly responds under low spring tension and i think the right pedal is lagging now....so im waiting for my pearl pedals to come in from Singapore....thats ur amazing country and my hope for good pedals....im from india myself.

one last thing....could some of u upload pics of ur beater angles? cos i keep it like \| from the skin...is that okay?

try to get yourself as tight tention as you need for OPTIMUM response. but don't tighten it till you find yourself fighting the pedals. beater angles should be kept at around 45degree's, a bit further away is fine. oh yeah 1 more thing. if you're playing ruin, the song goes around 200bpm 8th not triplets. try slowing down the triplet patterns to about 170-180. then it shouldn't be a problem picking up. the moment you caught the technique, just speed training. well at least thats the way i did it. :D

hey myner thanks for that i will do so today.....and ruin 8th notes? eh? those are 8ths? im talking bout the beat in the verse parts of the song....the ones chris adler made a deal about...u know that heel toe method and all....basically what i mean is i have to play with one foot in quick succession and that is VERY taxing if the srpings are really tight

the spring tension also affected by the thickness of the coil and the coil wire itself. i guess u need to experiment more. try everything, including setting the beater angle in between extremes (ie. 10 degree, 50 degree etc.)

end of the day, try another brand of pedal too !!!!

best if u can bring ur pedals and let the guys give u feedback / comments.

hope u drop by when we have our next drum Xchange !!

hehe...damn i wish iwas in singapore...u have such a thriving community...here all we have is bickering drummers each one of who claims to be the best and in truth they are far FAR from it. i wish i could come for it.....anyone wanna sponsor my tickets?

viper, which country do u hail from? :D

perhaps the other fellow drummers here who are using same pedals and playing similar music can shed more light...
