Ibanez S470DXQM

Anyone played this? How is it? I'm looking to get a guitar, pretty high end...about $700-1400, that is nice for lead playing, but not a.. "thin" sound like so many of those thin-nkeced guitars. I'm also eyeing the PRS Tremonti SE, but would prefer the Ibanez, provided the neck is nice and the sound is THICK and fat, mucho like a les paul. Also, Apart from inlays and finishes, how does this differ to the 520EX? Cheers

it's really convenient to dismiss Ibanez guitars as having a very thin neck, so thin that it's useless. be informed that the WizardII neck is one of the thicker profiles offered by the manufacturer. the inherent tones here isn't comparable to a Les Paul, if you want an Ibanez which offers that kinda tone, the SZ model would be a valid contender since it's a set-neck model, something the Les Paul features.

the S520 is missing a single coil between the humbuckers, unlike the 470 & the type of finish is also different. the EX suffix in S520EX indicates a matte body finish, instead of a lacquer gloss. also, the 470 has a quilted maple top.

The S series guitars are nowhere near a les paul's thick tone. Just weight the difference in body mass and note the neck joint.

BUT.

You do get the coolest tremolo yet. And you wouldn't get a backache.

Anyway, plonk in a Tone Zone if you want fatness. It works wonders for the S.

Quite agree with ShredCow.... But this guitar is really light, looks great, and has a good tremolo...... Heard it also stays in tune pretty well with it's tremolo

The ZR trem is very stable, esp with (or without) the tremsetter device.

I would prefer it without the tremsetter though... fully free floating.

the reason why i've been avoiding the ZR equipped S-series is the weight issue. although the ZR didn't add a tonne to the guitar but i feel there's a significant increase. everytime i strap on my S540, i'd feel rather frustrated... :smt069

im used to my les paul..so :D

yeah... having played Les Pauls, who wouldn't be accustomed to other guitars, weight-wise yes?

anyway, when the S-series first debut, it was a stab at the Les Pauls- 'all the tone, without the weight', that was the maxim...
