i see... so his original evo was alder?

but ibanez made and sold bass wood copies of his evo?

Production 7VWH which is very close to EVO is made with Alder. Ibanez sends all JEM prototypes to Steve for approval but I am not sure how JEM 555 and JEM JR pass his approval. May be some big bucks behind or Steven wants to make a signature guitar for musician in budget just like Epiphone ZW.

Actually, Steve knows about the JEM555 and Jem Jr (or JEM333).

The JEM Jr was to combat piracy of his JEM guitars in China, Indonesia and the like, where ppl just, well, pirated the JEM design. So it as made as an affordable JEM for ppl in those countries.

oh i see... so only the JEM7V is alder...

had the misconception that the JEM7V was basswood from the start and only changed to Alder recently to match Vai's original... lol

Actually JEM JR is not a very bad thing; the only bad thing is price tag. If JEM JR price is equal or lower than other low-end RG, people may say it is value for money.

xklusivly4u, the Jem Jr might be worth it if you lower the price tag, but you have to take into consderation more things...

For 1, the ILT1 trem is bad. And if a floyd is bad, then your tuning stability is compromised.

And thats good enough for me to pass it off and get an RG with the Edge III.

the JEM JR is definitely worth for me. got it for $560. the pups aren't that bad, just that an upgrade make them better!
