I need some help in deciding what electric guitar to buy..

hey that's nothing to be ashamed of!! i think RGs are really playable..i got an RG270 for close to 5 or 6 yrs and it still rocks!! never really tried S series cos i like the floating units..ha..

try the RG2620. its mahogany body with quited maple top. my fren bought for 1.4k at sims drive sweelee. comes with hardcase. i recommend this over the 1550 or the other one(forgot the model but without pickguard) as it has more sustain, maybe cuz of the mahogany.
It comes with 2-2 config, dimarzio/ibz pickups. This pickups are in fact the PAF-PROS i believe. try it. just name it with ibanez as ibanez want a share. its wound by dimarzio which makes it a complete dimarzio pickup actually.

i virtually tried all the bolt-on Prestige models before deciding on the 1550, i just prefer maple fretboard this time. i did audition the 2620 before but it's not a personal preference, glad to read you friend likes it...

mahagony doesn't = more sustain. both my baswood RG560/ 7620 have incredible sustain, it's also about the overall mass of the guitar, electronics & amp. the 2620 sports Dimarzio wound Ibanez pickups- Dimarzio IBZ, they aren't real Dimarzio so to speak. if you can undo the pickups & compare the default wirings with an average Dimarzio, you'll see why.

do you like flat radiused necks or curved radius necks?

flat: ibanez is a good place to start. check out any model numbered 500 and above for MIJ ibanez's. alternatively, schecter makes some great guitars with fixed bridges (which i personally favor over any trem) and flat radiused necks, mahogany bodies and rosewood fretboards. carvin may be another guitar company worth checking out.

curved: fender may interest you. don't buy the humbucker = metal crap. you can get a rockin' sound using single coils or - my personal favourite pickups of all time, P90 soapbar pickups. in fact, if you use single coils or P90s with high gain you'll get a much tighter sound than using a humbucker and if it's not enough output, crank up your amp! that's the only way to rock anyway. but back to fenders, despite their reputation for twang and their unfortunate association with country music, telecasters can rock anybody's socks off hardcore.

you are right! my tele is a dedicated Black Metal proponent...

Heh, another chance to flaunt my microstack...

Those of you who own full Marshall stacks, u can stop ur snickering now.

Hey guys sorry that I haven't been updating you all.. Busy with my 'new' guitar :D I bought a 2nd hand '92 fender strat floyd rose series; it came with a dimarzio humbucker (dunno which one) at the bridge position. I'm really happy with it! :D I don't like the slim neck feel and tone of ibanez guitars, so I gave fender a try and it was not bad hehe. My friend bought a strat copy, a normal S-S-S one with a vintage syncronised trem and I like the tone of his bridge pick up better. It has a hard rock crunch to it, whereas mine is screaming high-gain. Joke is I paid at least 5 times more for mine, but oh well, I'm still VERY happy with my guitar :D Fored tried the guitar you can ask her about it if you want :P

my friend, it seems that you tried only certain Ibanez guitars, am i right? because not all of them have slim necks, the SZ models- those aren't slim necks...

anyway, good to hear you bought a Fender you like, i play fenders as well, they are no Ibanez substitutes but they are good guitars to own... you have any pic of your new guitar? if you do, post 'em up @ Our Photo Album. cheers!

Yep I tried the SZ, but it has a fixed bridge and the price range is off my budget. It has a neck through body design too right? I don't quite prefer that as I want the freedom to change parts of my guitar when I want to. Not that I don't like that, I know the advantages of a neck through design, but not for my 1st guitar. Maybe for my 2nd ;)

btw: how to post pictures on the photo album?

SZ- set net, not neck thru... i see, you want a vibrato, the fender is a good choice i must say...

you need to find a picture host on the net, post your pic there & then link it here. otherwise you can msg Mr. SOFT, he can definitely put the pic up here for you. 8)
