I need help choosing a guitar

awesome... thnks guys.....i think i shall get an edwards... it is a xmas/ birthday present from others anyway.... think i shall call her eddy... hahaha

thnks again.

Edwards guitars are one of the best u can go for if u want an LP. I wldn't worry too much abt having 22 frets as opposed to 24, a good guitar is a good guitar and guitarists shld be able to find ways to circumnavigate this 'problem' ya? IMHO, the only brand that makes better LPs than Edwards is Burny. And those are super rare.

Tokai & Edwards are superb 8-)

any particular edwards model that comes to mind.... nvr really looked at edwards LP b4...

an Edwards is not an LP, it's a copy & a very good one indeed. i have no particular models to put forth to you because the Jap models I tried (mostly E-LP-92, i own one as depicted here) are all class instruments, nevermind if they mimic another manufacturer's fabled product.

i tot a LP is a kinda of shape? as such the association to it.

They ( the shape and name ) are registered trademarks of Gibson Musical Instruments. Les Paul is the name of the man who designed the shape but of course ppl will refer to any guitar with a similar shape as an LP as there is no other reference point. Bro sub was being politically correct by saying it isn't an LP but the shape is the same thats all.

haha, i didn't know sub so particular over such things... well sorry Sub if i did offend you...

anw, i'm either getting davis or ordering online... esp ltd ec-1000, amber sunburst MIK... (being made in korea is it gd?)... hahaha if i do order online... wat precautions should i take... i know there was a thread on this b4... so IYHO, purchase it with a flight case?

so far which site offers the best deal...? musicianfriend just gives a free gig bag.... (sadly)

ESP owns LTD and Edwards... Nuff Said.

if esp owns both LTD and edwards... i think the diff in quality shouldn't be much of a diff rite? would the place in which they are manufactured affects the quality? cuz i'm got a RG... MIK.... really well made IMO, has been with me siince 1999. gd stuff.

ESP guitar will be around 2k.. Just got my esp eclipe for 1950... If u wan a 24 frets ESP u can look at the MII http://www.espguitars.co.jp/oversea/standard_gt/m2r_emgsw.html is around 2k also..

well, thnks for the advise, but I'd prefer a LP shape (something diff to add to my collection), as i already have an RG. thnks thou.

maybe 2k is a lil off my budget. why the huge resentment to LTD.... is it THAT bad guys.... seriously, i'm gonna spend something like 1.3k on this baby... i sure wouldn't want to get it only to find out it the quality sucks big time.

Well bro, i think edwards lp is top draw for ur budget, u can try out the jap made tokais too as they r top draw as well!

Actually ltd guitars r not bad, but perhaps to those who kinda resent them can be because they have grown out of them or ltd guitars just dun sound gd enough, like they have found better guitars out there, treat ltd like an esp lite or something......it will never be an esp but definitely has its dna in them. If u r really inclined in getting the ltd or any other brands, i would strongly suggest that u try them out personally before purchasing bro!

Actually u can check davis .... i saw a ESP guitar for 1650 :) think should be eclipe I or II (USA version but made in japan ofcos) $300 more but u wont be wrong with a esp eclipe

Well, place of manufacture isn't the key here. It's QC and process management. The more expensive guitars have more (or are supposed to have) strict QC, and more attention to detail. The people spend more time selecting woods, ensuring the best cuts, and the production time for a guitar is usually a little longer than those which are from the sub brands. It's the details that matter.

So are you saying the MIK RG quality you have is on par or similar to that of a J Custom? If so, then why would anyone pay more for a J Custom?

Then again, can you tell? Have you stripped it apart? Do you know WHAT constitutes as a well made guitar? Anyone can cut a piece of wood, you know?

Did you know that some MIJ and MIM Fenders use Zinc sustain blocks as opposed to Stainless Steel blocks used by the MIAs?

What makes a Navigator so much more expensive than an Edwards? Ever wondered why an ESP KH Quija costs $20k?

Not saying your RG is a bad guitar. Iv'e never played it, and Ibanez guitars have a certain standard to it. Even the JEM 555 which I personally like is a nice guitar. But to say it's the SAME quality as a 77VWH? Dream on man...

well dude, maybe i was a lil lucky to get one of the better made RG's...

does that mean, (i might) be able to get a gd ltd... if i'm lucky?...

anw, i'll check at davis again... last i saw a eclipse from ESP goin for 1950 (from the outside) hopefully the 1650 one is inside...

anw.... this issue of whether to get a esp, ltd, edwards, tokai is really STRESSING me out... so far i've tried only the ltd ec-50 and 100. darn, looks like i'll have to go down and try it all in a day an make a decision. anw... where to find tokai? too bad davis was closed on the 4th of Jan

I think whether or not you get a good piece, depends on how good you are at choosing, and how lucky you are that the store has the stock. Like my recent purchase. We all know that EBMM makes good guitars. So good that you could buy them blind, and have a perfectly made guitar.

But having spent 3 hours in the distributor's shop in tokyo, I walked away with a 3.4kg guitar, that's not only quartersawn for the neck, it's also flamed. And of all the guitars in the store (for that model), that was the most resonant one the had.

Choose wisely... you're stuck with it for a while after you buy if you don't like it.
