i need a new amp

200 dollar budget... my friend loves his samick amp which cost like 90 plus at davis? it's been one year and it's still working well. it's good.

or you could try the ibanez valbee if you like real tube distortion. should be within your budget if you get it from the sweelee sale!

The valbee's distortion by itself is ok only, but..
get a gd pedal with a decent guit, play it loud and the tone is really gd no kidding. At 5w, u can really crank up the vol without having the neighbours complain. Just make sure u close the doors and the windows and don't play too late at night u should be fine.(its still loud)

oh yeah heard it sounds good with a tubescreamer.

"Working on this limitation, the amp duly receives some drive saturation from an Ibanez Tubescreamer (connected in series) which sculptures the tone quite significantly, resulting in a lesser treble protrusion & a more polished midrange. More bass boost is also introduced to the setting via a parallel connection (FX loop) of an EQ pedal. The ValBee’s puny nature is now overshadowed by its commanding output."

hope this helps.

+1

the ValBee's default drive isn't fantastic, but it's a very good basis for pedal drive enhancement. thusfar, it's reacting well to all my tubescreamers & Duncan's Tweak Fuzz.

sub what marshall tube combo would you recommend? thinking of getting one..

Marshall's DSL401 is a very warm, valve-driven amp that should be on eveyone's checklist if you are shopping for an amp of this nature. the default drive won't do a comprehensive metal tone but it excels in the blues/ hard rock territory. it's also the most affordable Marshall all valve combo since the DSL201 was discontinued.

yeah but theres the overheating and badly soldered joints issues on that combo, unless there's no other choice then...

the most needed mod on that amp and most commonly installed mod is adding a fan to teh back of the unit. To cool the amp. Problem is that the tube sockets are mounted on the pcb and when it gets hot the pcb flexes and solder joints sometimes comes loose and tts where all probs start coming in.

during my ownership of the amp, i have never encountered any overheating/ soldering/ electronic issues. yes, the amp gets heated up quite easily but i have resorted to aiming a small table fan at the rear to keep it cool. i have ever played the amp 5hrs straight without any complications.
