OUCH!

While executing a bend during a solo just now, i suddenly felt a sharp sting on my finger. I immediately flinched, I thought i got electric shocked by the guitar strings. Then i looked at my finger, and pulled the skin under the nail down for some reason and was surprised to find blood! Haha. I guess the the string gauge was too heavy for me, bend also skin kena ripped apart.. Guess i have to stop playing for a while till it recovers. Basically, the skin was ripped apart from underneath the nail.

Anyone else shared this experience before?

Anyway my string gauge is not even that heavy, its only .10 and the rip wasnt that bad, just exposed skin and a lilttle bit of blood.

a friend I once had loved playing soccer and the guitar. he broke off his entire toe nail and he used the piece of it as a guitar pick..

Wah scare me... Thought the whole nail came off argh sickkk. I had something like that when I played guitar last time too! Frustrating! Hows the wound now?

A little better. But when I pull the skin down, still hurts. Sian. I have auditions next week, can't practice lol.

Thanks for asking :)

Yeah i got this before... on my index, bloody painful i couldn't play for a week? got it in another accident though not while playing guitar hehe...

I once did a cymbal choke, felt a sharp pain, but continued the song. When I finished, I noticed there was blood on the cymbal with persistent pain in my thumb (adrenaline must have been numbing the pain). Lo and behold, I managed to thrust the cymbal edge between my thumbnail and the nail bed, and the nail came off completely!

AARRGGHH!!!! Oh man, i can imagine.. hahhaha. Thats way worse than mine. Arrrgghhh eeeww, cant imagine your reaction when u realised what really happened.

Super Glue. I once sliced all four fingertips on my left hand installing a stove on the afternoon of a gig. I super glue'd the wounds shut and though it hurt, I got through the gig. New skin grows and it comes off... eventually.

Its not poisonous? Wouldnt that cause an infection? :o

That's badass bro.

Using super glue for battlefield triage goes back to the Vietnam war. It's sterile, and seals a wound very fast. I know it has been used for sealing external wounds, but I've never heard of it being used internally...

Super Glue is a guitarist's friend. It's the best thing out there for repairing a torn fingernail - way stronger than Tuff-Nail or your girlfriends Nail Hardener (usually just a clear nail polish). If you have trouble growing nails, or your nails are brittle, paint them with a thin layer of Super Glue (mind you, if you cover the whole nail, you run the risk of breaking the ENTIRE nail off should you have an accident!)

And if you get a cut on your fingertips (as I did) it will form a hardened skin surface that will stand up to the stress of fretting your instrument while the wound heals. New skin grows underneath and eventually the super glue wears off. Just to be clear, I pushed the sliced skin back together and applied Super Glue to the OUTSIDE of my skin - some may have seeped inside the slice but that was not where I applied it. Since it dries in seconds, it seals the wound (no blood out, no infection in!) and will be strong enough to hold it shut so the body can repair itself.
