but I'm starting to like the sound of a pick on my bass >_>

it's a p/j ibanez soundgear starter.

I'm most comfortable with fingers for most styles of playing, for the variety in tone at the bridge and the neck and all that, and for doing fast runs and fills or playing alternate strings/several strings at the same time

but recently I've been messing around with my old guitar pick (which for some reason is still around) and I've found that the consistency can sound pretty sexy! I can get a really nice thick thud sort of sound that sounds like a mini bass drum chugging along. it sounds best to me when I only use the P pickup while turning down the bridge to zero.

so yah, just rambling.

I always thought I'd prefer fingers to pick.

i've been using a pick to play all the while. no crime 8) and i find it sounds better with that sound of the pick touching the strings before the note comes out. sexy 8)

it's best to be proficient in both styles of playing, whatever the songs need, you can come up with the perfect tone to support it!

Well, I started out as a pick player, and never imagined that I would like playing with my fingers.

When I heard Cliff Burton and Steve Harris, all that changed. Oh yes, then there was Mark King and Les Claypool too.

These things happen in. Change is the only constant. Ain't no shame in playing with a pick, Mike Gordon, Duff and Turin Porter all use picks.

i use picks for guitars, so when i use picks for bass, it;s like: ' hey! why is my next string so far?!'

haha dun like to use it with bass cos of the wide string spaces la. and i think picks are too harsh as well imho.

i've been using fingerstyle all the way, except recently for certain songs like scarified where i use my fingers in a pickingstyle (kinda like classical guitar playing, using the fingernail as a "pick") because the notes are slightly clearer and less thumpy.

oh and did u know there are many fingerstyles possible, other than the standard "walking on the strings" technique? it's fun to try out the styles used in flamanco on bass! lol
