I've posted a new song from Humming Kitten on its myspace page, its titles "Takeaway". Humming Kitten is a pop/rock/alt/lo-fi project.

Same thing over this post, add me as friend on myspace, comment, tell your friend about it, if you feel like it. Thank you very much :)

what software did you use to record/mix this? did you only record the vocals?

anyway, i like the songs. but at the same time it's pretty generic shoegaze.

I used an ancient Cubase 4.0 OEM version that came with my soundcard. I recorded every keyboard and "guitar" (no actual guitars were used though) and vocals, san the drums, I programmed those, no space and no talent for drumming. haha. :D

Thanks for the comments! :)

*Paws!*

I found your mix and/or creating sound technique is terrible :) You do this purposely or that's what you get? There is some annoying distorted guitar sound layer everywhere, then i need to listen deeply to get drums and i think there is vocal too. How do you mix these?

Result: Practice makes perfect

Hello D90, thank you for actually listening to it :)

The production (or lack thereof) is a combination of aesthetic choice, budget (none to speak of) and practice (I have never done any mixing).

I was working on no budget, recorded them at home. The terrible vocal is not much of a choice because i do not have a proper mic, hence i used my handphone and lots of reverb as a substitute, I'm a little annoyed with it so I am looking for a better solution. No guitars were used to make any of the songs already up, most of the sounds were emulated or came from a keyboard, I like distortion, hence its there in copious amount. The fact that Myspace streams in really low resolution didnt help either.

Its also an aesthetic choice as i intended it to be lo-fi/noise-pop. I'm inspired by artist/bands like No Age/Wavves/Vivian Girls.

But once again TYVM for actually bothering to click play, I really appreciate that!

You loop a partition of your music first. Like 4 bars, full with main instruments, who are they? Drum, bass, distorted sound (in this case) vocal, synth etc... then just listen if they cover each other. Can you hear all of them? This operation called mix. Means; your ear checks all the channels

Suggestion: Put your drum channel first, then go to other channels. Make the beat appear not the distorted element.

Can you send me "Here They Come" all the channels without any reverb any other effect on it? You can upload to somewhere, wave format

d90,
suggestion: go listen to the bands he mentioned. particularly wavves. the dude from wavves recorded and mixed his album using garageband, and i assume his laptop microphone or something equally bad. it sounds terrible but some people like it, like this guy. i like the way this guy mixes though, wavves is abit much.

i like your new song.

hello D90, in that song, the intro had only three instrumental tracks: the sequenced drums, a clean emulated guitar sound and an organ patch put thru delay and distortion with alot of feedback. The whole song consisted only of three instrumental tracks, I use less over dubs than you think. I guess in many ways i was trying to emulate the sound on "Loveless" and some lo-fi records. I'm also less concerned regarding the production as I am primarily a songwriter and have no knowledge on production.

I could provide you the samples, but do you know where can i host them?

hello blank! Thanks for listening to my songs, I am so thrilled that someone actually likes anything that i have put out so far, thanks alot! The records produced by Wavves on his laptop sounded too loud but really like the overall aesthetics of it. Wavves have a new record coming out soon, the first single is out!

np dude. personally, i think t-pain to autotune is wavves to distortion(lo-fi) really. added you on myspace btw
