Hi guys. Just got myself a natural finished Aria Pro II Lespaul from a really nice guy. Got it used and didnt come with pups. Now i seriously need help in choosing them as i have never ever tried other pups except Emgs..

Going to use this axe for my another band and we are going to play stuffs like audioslave, soundgarden, rage against the machine, bon jovi and mostly those alternative rock. What would you guys reccomend? Have attached the pic of the guitar
:D

Dimarzio Breed neck and Breed bridge for thick, chunky tone. :) It might be darkish, but you can split them to great effect.

hehehehehehhe... i saw that coming from u! hehehehehh...

i'll go for Evolution neck and bridge if i want tight lows and nice highs. the output of those r quite high, and i personally find them "raw", "garang" and "aggressive". can't describe them nicely here... good for RATM and Audioslave.

for Bon Jovi or Soundgarden, i'll recommend a more traditional sounding pickups. pair of "any" Dimarzios PAF series (the Virtual PAF, PAF Classic, PAF regular).

Seymour Duncan Alnico II Pro (Neck)
Seymour Duncan Custom Custom (Neck)

Dimarzio Evolutions or breeds would be very versatile in the bridge position. Or if you have some extra money, go grab some PRS Dragon pickups.

i'd say either a seymour duncan pearly gates(neck) custom custom(bridge), or a '59 neck, same bridge.

its a pretty versatile combo, imho, coz those pickups arent too high in output, and can do stuff from metal to blues. also, they can be coil tapped to sound pretty good.

my strat runs on a lil'59 and custom custom, but thats alder, so its different. if im not wrong ur lespaul is mahogany, so no idea how the pickups will react to mahog.

I used the Breeds in a mahogany guitar before. They have very nice vintage tone but with modern power. On their own, the cleans are good and versatile, strummy pop to jazz are possible, when split, the cleans are VERY acoustic like.. Distortion wise, think of PAF tone but thicker, bassier and middier. The breed has a lot of chunk, less than the Tonezone but still alot. Coil split, its a very crunchy tone that has a nice snap to it.

If you are keen, you can try the Breed neck in the bridge position. I am currently using and I can demo it for you... this is what dimarzio says abt the Breed neck in bridge position.

  • "Recommended For: Neck position on bolt-on trem guitars, bridge position on set-neck fixed-bridge instruments.
Tech Talk: The Breed™ is a bit louder and fatter-sounding than the PAF Pro®s that Steve used on his earliest Jems. As a neck pickup, it has more than enough power to balance with high-output bridge pickups: it will work with the Tone Zone®, Super Distortion® and Evolution® as well as The Breed™ bridge model. In the bridge position, it has a very warm, hot PAF® tone–really smooth, with nice harmonics."

Woah...thanks guys for the combination! Now i really have a hard time choosing.

What do guys think of a SH-4 in Neck and SH-6 in the bridge? Is this config versatile?

wow that's a very nice guitar......the finishing is quite good it seems especially it's a 2nd hand guitar......rage against the machine favours emg and seymour duncan pickups if i'm not mistaken........

Okay guys...This may sound stupid...Since its my 1st lespaul guitar....
May i know which one should be the neck volume, bridge volume, tone etc.? I plan to put in my old pups to it for temporary use.(Refer to pic above) Do help me label it. Thanks

using your picture above as reference, the 2 knobs on the vertical axis on the left is for your neck pickup and the right is for your bridge.

top knobs are for volume and bottom for tone.

Thanks turtlemuscle! :D

Neuro: I have hard time choosing now. Wanted to listen to the dimarzios clip. But mostly unavailable. So i guess my pickup search will still continue...

Hmm

Jr-V: u can get some of the dimarzio clips from ShredCow, he got some nice & kewl demos done up. 8)

Thanks Shredcow. I totally love the tone from the clip "A Bit of Soul"

Would really love to experiment with the Breeds. Omg...that sound juz stucked at my ears now....

Shredcow, what pedal do u use for your distorion/overdrive? It sounds nicee

All the breed clips? Believe it or not, none.

Everything from a lousy solid state Marsal MG30DFX amp, line in to the computer.
