HQ Real Feel Practice pad problem.

I bought the practice pad not too long ago and i am experiencing some sticky spots to appear on the grey rubber surface and the edges. What happened? is there anyway to keep the pad clean and sticky free?

that happened for mine also. i just rubbed off the sticky things at de edge, for the surface i just left it as it is. Im changing a new pad soon. =X

It sounds like it might be the adhesive/rubber deteriorating in our humid climate?

Just a wild guess.

put it back in a box or something enclosed when u're not using it.

or better still.

practice on a phonebook like the Yellow pages.

try it!

sticky? i think maybe it slightly got melted, singapore is a hot place. maybe you can try storing it in a box with a dehumidifer? you know like silica gel. wang wang inside got one..

I think it's melted.... I just leave mine open to air and make sure nothing's left lying on it or it'll get stuck. One time my homework kena. Wah. Had to make new copy of it.

ya! exactly, it was after i keep leaving stuff on top of it that this happened. i left like, thin plastic wraps on it. im now wondering whether the sticky things are the plastic bits. but then it can't be removed. or so i think. so i think it melts. so easy melt one uh...

To me those HQ are not really good. Mine just shrink lah over time.....and like you some got sticky.

I use 3 kind of Practice Pads now.....I've the Sabian (wher you can mount it on a snare), but I love my 12" Pearl Practice snare most....it's fun really.

Hey, I face the same problem as ya... and i agree that is due to the environment where your pad is exposed... now my pad is like slightly sticky and with like dust and dirt stick on it... feel like changing to E-pads

Ya man...the same thing happened to my sound-off pads....the rubber started to "break-down" after 6 months or so...and the smell is horrifying too! My dog used to like sniffing them though!....haha

If you like the HQ-type hard surface....VicFirth now makes similar ones...I got one for myself and its been 4 months now...still ok...will keep u guys updated the minute I see some defects...

anything rubber in singapore is a headache....

whatever stuff you buy...try not to get those with high rubber content...I have the same problem even with my guitar stand..the neck part of the guitar just sticks to the stand cause the rubber cushioning it sort of "melted"...

unless you have a aircon place or a dehumidfier....at all cost..avoid it...

I'm thinking about getting a decent practice pad until I stumble upon this thread. The HQ pad as well as the Vic Firth ones crossed my mind. Seems like you guys having some problems with it. Would you guys den recommend the E-pad ones from Nigel?

Anyone who has that practise pad wan give comments?

E-pad is great. One of the best practice pads around, IMHO. Though the price is a little on the steep side as compared to the other pads.

My HQ pad is still serving me well after like 2 years though. Maybe it is because I keep it in a cool cabinet whenever I am not using it.

haha know wha? use the cheapest practice pad available! Use your YELLOW PAGES phone book. they are seriously good and cheap. dun you guys agree with me?

The yellow pages phone book give you ZERO rebound on your sticks, which means it doesn't allow you to control your strokes. Bad idea to use the yellow pages.

If you've set your mind on drumming, the very least you should do is to invest in a proper practice pad, and not scrimp and save and use "alternatives" to practice on.

Anyway, my HQ practice pad is still going fine, I have a few spots on it too, but they aren't affecting my playing much so its fine.

e pad

i've heard that the e pads are good too, but just wondering has anyone tried the kneepad from them? the one you tie to your thigh..

i'm having a hard time whether to get the kneepad which is very portable and u can play anywhere, juz tie to ur thigh..while the normal 12" pad have to get a stand or a table to play on..

YangZ:
The knee e-pad is great. I'd recommend the rectangular sized one. The round bulls-eye version is a little too small IMHO. I bring the knee e-pad around a lot. Can use it to warm up before jamming and gigs too.

ya..i went to try out the normal pads and the knee-pads and i liked the knee-pads a lot!! its very portable and i will be able to bring it around to practice a bit whenever i have time..especially in camp..

guess the only con is my hand cannot stretch out..and i have to keep my thigh at a much lower level..but i guess its only me..haha..
