could some gimme some links so i could read up on them.

Not sure if your're referring to the Buddy Guy Strat that is made in Mexico (MIM) or made in America (MIA).
From what I heard, the MIM Buddy Guy strat is essentially a standard strat with the fancy paintwork and a larger pricetag.
The MIA one is a different breed altogether, with lace sensor pickups and a active mid-boost circuit, which can give u a more powerful sound.
If u wanna play punk and alt rock, I dun see why a strat can't do the job. More of a question of wether do you prefer a darker, fatter sound (with humbucker) or a thinner, brighter sound (singele-coil).
You can pop by Seymour Duncan's website to listen to clips of their various single-coil and humbucker pickups to have a deeper appreciation of the difference in sound.

looks aside, i prefer the Robert Cray strat (MEX) in terms of tone.
