Recording

okay it depends on whether you are doing a multi-track recording or a live recording. whether you are doing home recording or studio recording and the microphone techniques come in play together with mixing and EQing so in order to get detailed information i suggest you go to the How-To section of the Sound Engineering section and post your questions there because those guys would know best about recording and stuff:)

The Easy Way :
have the mp3 of the song that you wanna cover in your ipod/phone etc.

[This section can be replaced with any other audio interface options you may have]
setup your recording gear, if you don't have any , something like a Zoom H2 would be decent enough unless if you're particular.
put it infront of your drumset. just above the kick below the toms around that level.
set to record only front 2 mics.

start recording.
then start playing on your mp3 player.
jam away.
stop recording.
use something like Audacity software to sync/ save /edit the mp3 and upload =)
------------

If you have abit of DAW (digital audio workstation) knowledge + you have some recording gear way :
set your DAW channels in this manner :
#1 = the song that you wanna cover.mp3
#2 = arm this track to record your drums

and you play (mp3) and record (mic input) at the same time.

have fun
