Isn't that standard for any types of vocals? I think what makes rock vocals different are not those per se, but how those things are tweaked at certain ways, right? :?
its alll about tone..whether you have a jazz...blues...pop voice...whatever...its all got to do with tone...
Er... So how do you get a "rock tone" ?
I don't imply that tone isn't a part of rock vocality (all vocals have tone in the issue) but I don't think it's the predominant ingredient in rock vocals.. Unless of course you guys are referring to "rock vocal tone" ah.. which has to be developed and not naturally your own voice tone shining through..
I've always put aside rock vocalworks seperately from tone, cos tone is just an entity on its own; it's the addition of certain techniques that get that tone "rocked out". It isn't so clearly obvious on male rock voices because the majority of male rock vocals' tones mould into a close frequency, but if you compare female vocal tones in rock vocality (for example; the rock vocals of Lambretta, Guano Apes and Lullacry), you'll notice they all have completely different tone, but add vocal accents and styles to make it "rock".
Best example to check out would probably be Lambretta, cos she has a sweet feminine tone, always squeakishly childlike, but she applies rock accentations to get it in the rock style..
It's like someone asking how to sing country music... tone besides (since it uses standard singing principles), what gives the twang isn't the tone, but the way its sung.. same thing with rock vocals.. My two cents..
